Earth, Wind & Fire: All-New Track On Legacy Release
November 20, 2011
Press release:
More than simply a new career-spanning best-of compilation, Now, Then & Forever centers around favorite tracks hand-picked by A-list celebrity friends and fans of the band including world-class musicians whose work has been influenced or inspired by EWF's groundbreaking catalog.
Celebrity curators who've picked their favorite EWF songs for the Now, Then & Forever collection include Andre 3000, Lenny Kravitz, Pharrell, Raphael Saadiq, will.i.am and David Foster, among others.
Now, Then & Forever will premiere "Guiding Light," an avidly awaited brand-new EWF song, as well as a new remix by will.i.am.
"Guiding Light" provides a hint of things to come from Earth, Wind & Fire, who're preparing a full-on new studio album for summer 2012.

I thought the new album was supposed to be gearing up its release early January 2012. This collection...more cash-in trash! [Edited 11/20/11 19:23pm] Check me out and add me on:

I am just embarking on an EWF odyssey, getting hold of all their classic albums and a couple of their latter day ones too. I've explored most of the other big '70s funk bands, but have somehow slept on the EWF till now, greatest hits excepted.
God, I love tracks like Star and September . In classic '70s funk, we have EWF who are like the day, while your P-Funk is kinda like the night.

Refreshing and unlike anything on Urban Radio. I can dig it!

it's a nice song featuring the familiar elements that make their music so great: uplifting lyrics, soaring vocals,"real" instruments and solid production.

That's what Phil, Verdine and Ralph said about the new album coming out later in 2012...that it would be a back to basics approach for EWF......real instruments, the way they used to do it in the 70s....
Glad to hear that approach in action on this new cut....

I'm looking forward to that new album!

Agree 100%.
I know that this will be a more collaborative approach more than likely involving music folk outside the EWF organization, as opposed to the old days where it was mostly Maurice writing, with the EWF team and some outside contributions, as Maurice is probably more in a advisory role and because of his health issues not able to take a more hands on approach to this recording as we all would prefer.....
But, hopefully, whoever is involved will already be steeped in that EWF tradition, so the tunes will be EWF, sound EWF and not be trying to straddle any musical fences that groups sometimes feel they have to do in order to be current...
Fingers are crossed..... [Edited 12/15/11 6:45am]

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Embedded radio edit. Great new track...definitely cool to hear Maurice in the beginning of the bridge (as short as it may be, its still great to hear his voice) & Philip does his thing as usual. It reminds me of "Pure Gold" & "Show Me The Way" from their last album, the highly underrated "Illumination". Hopefully keyboardist Larry Dunn (assuming that's him on this track) is all over the new album... Thanks for posting this! [Edited 12/25/11 18:48pm] Exiles of the Nation

Yeah, the "Gather Round"-chorus is quite similar to the chorus of "Sing A Song"
