I think this is the best song of all time. It's completely brilliant. God must have written it for them.

Well, Freddy's up in that great big disco in the sky. Did you see what Google did for his 65th birthday?

There's a really good documentary that reruns sometimes, all about the song, how it was written and recorded, featuring brian may and producer roy thomas baker (is that his name?) Well worth watching and very informative.

May tells how Freddie basically came in with the whole song mapped out in his head and on a few bits of paper... The rest of them just followed his instructions and trusted his vision.. Some 3 months later they had finally finished it, nearly wearing through the recording tape because they had done so many overdubs!!!
eek

this is it It's streaming on Netflix for anyone who subscribes.

There are segments where they play the multi track and solo tracks. Boy would I love to have the multi available for digital and be able to pick this song apart.

One of the greatest things is Freddie's sliding "Bismallah" into that song. He never forgot his Persian roots. It's actually the reason why they allowed Queen to be sold in Iran in recent years.

One of his friends said he was playing around with that song back in 1969, and started off sounding like a country song.. the "mama, I just killed a man" verse.

To me, it sounds like he had 3 different songs, because if you try to read it as a poem, it makes no sense. The intro and opera part sound like they were one idea, the "Mama, I just killed a man" a second idea, and "So you think you can stop me" sounds like it could've been from any of the first 3 albums.
