One thing I noticed from watching clips from award shows from the 80s on YouTube is that the competition was much harder then. You had Prince's Sign O' the Times competing against U2's Joshua Tree, for example. Now, the bar seems to be much, much lower for who and what gets nominated. Taylor Swift and Beiber would have been mere footnotes as award nominees back in the day.

They would've never been nominated in the first place. They would just be some kids making music. The bar is insanely lowered now and the music lacks soul. Nowadays, it's not music. It's just "ic" because there is no muse.
