Anyone else find Kate Bush completely overrated?? Don't get me wrong, some of her 80s stuff is good fun, but her music post-Hounds Of Love to present day is DULL DULL DULL.
Snoore-inducing attempts at being "avant garde" masking what is essentially a pretentious songwriter with an inability to write anything with a real melody or structure. The Red Shoes was an embarassment, Aerial was pretentious as fuck and the new album sounds like one massive yawn.
It's kind of sickening watching the always predictable music critics sucking the clit of this lazy-ass, middle-class woman who's made no work of relevance in over two decades and hasn't done an honest days work since 1979.

It's especially English rock journos who praise everything Kate does simply because she's Kate. They do the same with Dylan. But you're going to the other extreme. I really liked The Sensual World and The Red Shoes. Aerial is a record that can grow on you. I haven't heared the new one yet, I think I will get it eventually, because I'm still intereted.

Certainly outside of the UK.
And no offense to the op but according to you Kate is dull and yet The Beekeeper is one of your fave albums????? I like a lot of Tori's work but that's the most boring album she ever released.

It took years for Kate to garner widespread praise even in her homeland. She was probably the most ridiculed music artist until Michael Jackson stole the attention. She was considered by most to be something of a joke until Hounds Of Love. And both The Red Shoes and Aerial recieved mixed reviews so to say that everything she does is praised is quite some distance away from the truth. Sure, her latest album has had a good response across the board but then it's an extraordinary piece of work. .

Kate Bush's new album - 50 Words For Snow - is EXTREMELY BORING. It literally put me to sleep.

Wow... I find her to be very underrated especially here in America. Most people wouldnt even know who she is.

Fair enough. It's a collection of mostly very long, slow songs and I was non-plussed the first time I heard it. Yet the more I listen to it the more magical it becomes. I consider Misty and Among Angels to be up there with her very best work. I think what I love most about it is that typically it's wonderfully out of step with everything else. The charts are boring to me these days as most stuff is interchangeable, conveyer-belt dreck. But yeah, if you prefer your music with a little more spring in its step then 50 Words For Snow ain't gonna be your cuppa.

I'm a huge fan and I think "Aerial" was complete magic, although it did take me some time to appreciate it (which is not unusual with Kate's work).
I haven't listened to the new album yet, the leaks or the streaming online. I want to wait for the official release and enjoy it all the way through. Just pre-ordered it on vinyl from amazon.com * * *

She's forgotten how to write songs imho.
I still love her though | |

the kind of artist who is called a "legend" by her fans
but who's virtually ignored by the rest of the world
| |

True. She deserves more attention.

I didn't say that, I didn't mean that, lol
and I'm not sayin' that she sucks...

Speaking as a big Tori Amos fan, every Kate album I've heard (Never For Ever to Aerial) is better than The Beekeeper--even The Red Shoes.

And to answer the OP's question, as many people have already pointed out, Kate is practically a nobody outside the U.K so how can she be overrated?
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Compared to most bullshit that is recognized internationally she DOES deserve more attention.

I don't think that's true. She is very well known in the US. Maybe not as far as being played on the radio, but people who follow music have heard of her. I like a lot of her older music where she wrote actual songs. My favorite albums are Hounds of Love and the Sensual World. But I agree her recent album 50 words for Snow is really boring.
I don't think her older music is overrated because it's brilliant. But with a lot of older artists who have done great work in the past and are critical darlings, people won't criticize their recent work when it's not very good. So her older music isn't overrated, but her newer music is.

completely subjective statement
then again, that's your speciality
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
People who follow music know lots of nobodies.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Well ill just say this and end it.
I cant help anyone if they prefer bullshit over real talent just stating the facts not trying to work a miracle. Fact is.. Kate is on some real shit compared to most things that is all ( accept it or not, get mad.. deal).. not tryna to start something that you know damn well you wont finish with me

fine, may I invite you to a cup of coffee??

It was the first album of Tori's that disappointed me, the generic and lifeless production didn't help (though Scarlet's Walk seemed to hint at what was to come). I'm still in shock that the op considers Kate's post Hounds Of Love material dull while defending the blandest album Tori ever made.
I actually think the much maligned The Red Shoes has far more moments of genuine musical excitement than the last few Tori albums combined. .
