Anyone else think Kelly Price is underrated?

I sure as hell do. One of the best voices out there.

Hell Yeah! Unfortunately, we don't recognize real talent when we see it or we take it for granted. We're biased to Protools-based artists that need that "little" extra help in the studio, (if ya know what I mean.) razz She's not the first to be underrated or overlooked and she sure won't be the last.

I don't think Kelly is underrated, but I don't think she is overrated either. She's somewhere in the middle to me.

My problem with Kelly is her material. I think she has a great voice and is a decent writer, but a lot of her material (that I've heard) is a tad too simple and not well thought out for her. Perfect example to me was her last "hit" with Stokley, "Not My Daddy." The title alone is juvenile to me. The structure of the song was weak and the bridge needed a tad more to me to showcase such powerhouse vocalists.

I haven't seen not one eyeoda of musical growth from Ms. Price. The last single she released wasn't really much different from "You Should Have Told Me". As D' mentioned, she's a casualty of the mediocre producers and weak songwriters presently in the music biz. Pity.

i see you too script. hug

I Love Kelly...She's written for others and she was pretty popular when she came on the scene in the late 90's....She wasnt able to tour her work early on and that's part of the reason why she doesnt have a solid fan base. Ledisi could easily fall in the same boat but we see she's touring now and sharing her talent with more audiences across the country...

Any GREAT singer can fall under the "underrated" category if they're not pushing their career full-force. You gotta WORK...Look at Yolonda Adams....Yolonda Admas is now a young Gospel Legend because she booked herself @ every open TV/Church/Public engagement that would book her...

Back in the day the "Legend of your talent" would open doors for an Entertainer..Today they gots to WORK to keep up withthe crazy bizness of show & tell...

I haven't really thought about it this way, but you are definitely on point.

Ledisi is EVERYWHERE and goes to different radio stations promoting herself and her music and it works for her. She does almost every "tribute" to almost any artist. It's excellent marketing.

I don't recall Kelly doing this. When she would release an album, she would try to do the traditional route and it doesn't work for her.

She's underrated. We can say that about a lot of r&b ladies.

Don't agree with the comments about her music not growing.

It would be one thing if she was stuck on the hip hopera that

was her, RKelly, and Ron Isley back in the day but she broke

camp from Ron and did her own thing and it showed on her

second album and more so on her third. Priceless was a great

album imo save a few tracks. Not My Daddy was a well written

tune by Mrs. Price and it was anything but juvenile. I doubt seriously

she had 13 and 14 year olds in mind when she wrote the song.

Mrs. Price is just a victim of the current state of music much like

Tamia, Deborah Cox, Chante Moore, Lalah Hathaway, etc. yet

Mary J. Blige is supposedly everyone's new Queen of Soul or

Hip Hop Soul. I wish her core fans luck with that and a good set

of earplugs.

To put her in the same catagory as Lalah Hathaway is laughable -- she wish, not only in terms of production but substance. It's not about the genre of music, its what she sings . If you purchase one album/cd of Ms. Prince you need not buy another, redundant. Everytime she comes out with something I listen... more or less shrug.

Well have to agree to disagree.
