I feel like I'm going out on a limb making them a topic of discussion, but I felt compelled to go for it. It feels like a confession. Did anybody else grow up on the tv show? C'mon you must have seen Davy, Micky, Peter, and Mike on tv one time or another. I remember watching them daily after school. The shows were light-harded, kinda bizarre at times, but it ended with fun music. Strongly connect it to my childhood. Most may think that they don't match up in talent to most of the artists and groups that we usually discuss, but they have made an impact.

Throughout their career and afterwards they were called everything to America's answer to the Fab 4 to the original Milli Vanilli since they didn't play their own instruments in the beginning. Session players and singers were used. Yet there was something about them and the music that kinda makes them endearing, even today. Within the past 5 years I had this resurgence of interest in them, so I bought the Anthology box set, and a few of the tapes of the tv show. I met Davy Jones when he toured with Grease a few years ago. That was a highlight. Does anybody have any fave songs, tv show episodes, any other recollections?

I grew up on the Monkees and I'm not afraid to admit that I liked them! I watched their show religiously. I liked Last Train To Clarksville and I'm Not Your Steppin' Stone.

"Last Train to Clarksville" is one of the best pop songs ever written. The melody and structure are stellar. I consider it up there with "ABC" and "Can't Get Next To You," two other hits from an era where nobody cared who wrote the songs, as long as they were good songs.

The Partridge Family is waaay better than the Monkees!!
