Lou Reed and Metallica performed on 'Later with Jools Holland'

Lou Reed and Metallica took the stage last night on the British television BBC 2 for the first time. They've performed two songs off their album together 'Lulu' on Later with Jools Holland show. James, Rob, Kirk, Lars and Lou played "Iced Honey" and "White Light/White Heat".

It was not an impressive performance, as the album already got some bad critics and reviews about this new collaboration. It's an unfortunate combination of aged musicians. Check out Loutallica live on Jools Holland:

this collaboration seems to really suffer from the fact that it includes lou reed...otherwise, it's not too awful.

and the ridiculosity of not pointing a camera at kirk hammett during his only solo oughtta get somebody fired, in my opinion.

then he played some god awful friend of Richard Christie that is mental and will never get a contract ....

and they laughed cus the second one was better than the Metallica/Lou Reed duo ....

In the Netherlands this collaboration is getting terrible, terrible reviews. Really awful. I love Metallica and I somewhat like Lou Reed a bit, but the combo of the two acts is a bit strange though. So I can understand where it's coming from. But "aged musicians" makes no sense to me.

So what, are musicians not allowed to release new material when they're old? At least, they still try something new. A lot of "aged" musicians keep playing their old stuff they got famous with half a century ago over and over again with taking to chance at all by trying something new and they somehow get away with it.

Strange.

This just shouldn't have happened. It might have worked out a bit better ten years ago, but Lou's just too old to pull of doing vocals over that sort of music anymore. I don't think Metallica really are the ones to blame here, they probably just wanted to stretch out and did it out of respect for Lou. I suppose it would have sounded just as bad had he hired any other metal band to back him up.

The audience looks so bored and disappointed in the first video.

I can see that they might have thought this was a good idea, but I can't believe they actually finished the project when it's so clearly a mistake.

How could all five of them have been on board for this mess? Prince can't promote his shit, but they can do this in front of people?!

U all need a reality check. I just listened to them, and they sound better than the repetitive hits that Prince keeps playing everytime. I actually think this is fresh and good idea!

Prince I will always miss and love U.

I did actually in terms of courage and age! And anybody saying they were stupid and couragous for a collab, must surely re-check and re-consider the attitude that Prince has these days.

The problem with your logic is, neither Lou Reed nor Metallica did anything different for this album, they just did what they always do, and they don't blend well. lol

Now, if Lou Reed sang differently, or Metallica played differently, then I might applaud them too.

lol just because two bad-ass (i.e., genius) artists get together doesn't mean it automatically results in a good album lol
