What were your favourite artists doing when they were your age? It seems that my favourite artists were all losing it when they were my age (34), so maybe I should worry
- In 1981, David Bowie was entering his least interesting decade, in which he published one decent album (Let's Dance) and three rather mediocre ones (Tonight, Never Let Me Down and Tin Machine). His last masterpiece, Scary Monsters (And Super Creeps), was released precisely in 1980.
- In 1992, Prince released a pretty good album (Love Symbol), but it was a huge failure in commercial terms. In fact, he would never have a hit album again. Also, he started his conflict with Warner, which led to the name change, etc. Arguably, he entered a period of artistic decay too. Happily for our Princey, he was so in love with Mayte.
- In 1978, Ray Davies (The Kinks) had a success (especially in the U.S.) with the album Misfits, and the next year he would repeat with Low Budget. However, many critics (and me too) think that The Kinks had to pay a high price for this commercial success: losing their idiosyncratic sound and never being themselves again. On the other hand, I think Ray would meet Chrissie Hynde soon. Well, maybe not so bad a period for him after all.
- In 1991, Paddy McAloon (Prefab Sprout) didn't know that his next project, a masterpiece titled Let's Change The World With Music, would be rejected by his record company, and that he would have to wait six years to release another album. Prefab Sprout's golden years were already behind him.
- In 1984, Stevie Wonder released the song which has become the symbol of his artistic decline, I Just Called To Say I Love You, and the mediocre album Woman In Red. It's not necessary to add nothing more.
What about you? | |

I think about this a lot hehe
Michael was writing and recording the Bad album
Janet was on the janet. tour, I think on hiatus from it before the European leg maybe. I would imagine You Want This was on the charts
Prince put out Under the Cherry Moon (favourite Prince movie) and Kiss
Madonna put out True Blue (the era I discovered her in)
Beyonce was on her Sasha Fierce tour, or at least getting ready for it, don't know her like that
Mariah was farting out rainbows
Toni was singing Let It Flow
TLC were complaining about Scrubs, just like I still do
No wonder I feel like crap, they were all doing so great at that age, and I feel unfulfilled in my own field where I could have peaked by now.

29 in 1987: Madonna was at the peak of her popularity in the 1980s with her 'Who's The Girl' Tour and Prince had just released a double album that would forever change music. 3121... Don't U Wanna Come?

Both of you seem to be luckier than me. But you'll get older and reach the period of decline of your artists too!

I don't think I even reached a peak , or if I did, it was all in my head years ago

@ 28.
Prince was touring in support of Parade. Although, at this time of the year, he'd probably be working on what would become Sign O' The Times.
Stevie would be working on Journey through the Secret Life of Plants.
James Brown and the Famous Flames were working the Chitlin' Circuit.
George Clinton would be putting together the 1st Funkadelic album.
Roger Troutman would be working on the 1st Zapp Album. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Both statements are false.

I think it was a failure considering what happened the year before with Diamonds And Pearls. If you compare it with The Rainbow Children, it would be a success, but I think that comparison isn't the correct one to understand this issue. As far as I know, Love Symbol was the Prince album that sold less in the U.S. together with Lovesexy and For You.
As for the second statement, you may have a point with Musicology and 3121.
