The next Eminem will be a woman

That is my prediction. Early on, female emcees were treated as a novelty in a black male dominated genre. With the rise in popularity of hip-hop to pop status, it wasn't long before the mainstream audience found a white knight to champion. That was Eminem. Rolling Stone, a magazine that knows jack-all about hip-hop, declared him "king of all rap". Well, pop music is circled around a young, female base. It stands to reason that very soon, there will be a Princess of rap to join Eminem. Right now, Nicki Minaj is blowing up the charts, but let's face it, no matter how biracial, bisexual or bi-anything she may be - she's not "mainstream" enough.
We know that this summer a rapper/singer that called herself Karmin came out of nowhere and shook the scene. I think she is contender #1. She has sufficient skills and very marketable looks, although right now she has no real style of her own. She really blew up very quickly and once they get her boyfriend/husband/whatever out of the picture, they will push her as a solo artist and she will go pop in a major way. Since she is working with Timbaland, I'm sure they will find her a style and make it stick. People are already waiting for her.

Controversial female rapper Kreayshawn also blew up under the Soulja Boy and Oddfuture association and she and her fellow "white girl mob" member V-Nasty's unapologetic use of the "n" word caused enough controversy to gain her national attention. With 23 million hits on youtube, people are definitely checkin' for her. With Oddfuture becoming more and more popular on the underground circuit, its just a matter of time before she gets something major going on, although I think her awkward looks would prevent her from hitting pop star status. On the other hand...two words: Lady Gaga. Anything is possible.

Another lesser known contender that you may be unfamiliar with now but will soon know is Iggy Azalea. She is an Australian-born rapper who migrated to ATL and then to Cali. Her material is raunchy and she has a mouth like a sailor but looks like a supermodel. In an era where looks are as important if not more important than abilities, this chick has the potential to be the Madonna of hip-hop. If she keeps up her nasty hot girl image and gets some good producers under her, she may end up a household name. It can happen. Who ever thought Kardashian would be a household name?

So, it is my prediction that soon there will be a new face on hip-pop. There WILL be a vanilla hip-pop Princess. Maybe it will be one of these or maybe it will be someone else altogether but its gonna happen. Watch.

Nicki's not a bad rapper; she's just annoying. And, I wonder if she writes her own rhymes. hmmm

i like the karmin people they seem talented but the name is silly. amy has clearly had some kind of training and remind me of some of the musical theater girls i knew in school.

the kreayshawn seem like an idiot. she was directing videos this summer- i think she should keep with that. i remeber her moms band- she looks just like her mom, but she should stick to videos.

the aussie seems like fun. im not that familiar with he refernces to her music but she certainly has talent.

Um we already have Nicki Minaj. And those girls sound just like her confused I'm not a fan of rap music and I usually can't understand what they're saying at all either but Eminem enunciates the words while maintaining the rapid speed...he has his own unique style. No such thing as "the next Eminem"!!

I like Nikki as a recording artist better. Not as a rapper. I love her mixture of pop, R&B, and rap. One of the most originals out there right now.

Now you and I both know that's not true. I love Jean's work but you KNOW she will never be mainstream just off subject matter alone. Pop music is about fluff and Jean Grae has way too much substance. Plus, she doesn't mince words about the "powers that be" and they ain't havin' that in this day and age.

Lady Sovereign's accent is too thick to make it to the top of the pop charts in the U.S.

Well a guy can dream, can't he? You're right, but to me Jean is the best emcee since Eminem in his prime, and I will never stop repping her. Nobody in the mainstream even comes close.

Keep your headphones on.

As ridiculous as that would seem, history shows that the mu-sick biz does this repeatedly.

Someone that should get some recognition, simply on a skill level, is Invincible...

...Sledgehammer & Recognize

But she won't because:
1) The non-cutie pie image
2) She's actually rapping about something.

@ tA - you know artists like Invincible and Brother Ali get no love in the game. That's not the image of hip-hop that the powers that be want displayed. wink

Now, Iggy has a more "offical" looking video:

200k hits on youtube in a week. They WILL push this girl purely off asthetics. Karmin will go mainstream because she already has a built in audience ready to elevate her to pop stardom. Iggy will be like an anti-Karmin - an Aussie with street cred? shrug

The last chick that looked like her went straight to the top. I can see this happening again. Its the image game. The team she has behind her now will push her as far as they can, then some cats with real paper will come and "buy" her out from under her present team, tone her lyrics back just a little from being raunchy and raw (rated x) to sexually suggestive (rated hard R) and push as many videos as they can of her onto the public. She will be dirty enough for teen girls' parents to dislike her - which will immediately make her cool. lol Its funny how if you know what to look for, you can see this whole thing unfolding before it happens. I called Nicki Minaj a few years back. Now look where she is. Some scripts just write themselves.
