The ART of NOISE .
One of the great legends from the 80's...one of the first to really play around with sampling and weird electronic beats and be recognized for the innovation. Later, they mellowed out, not to be washed away with the break-dancing craze...but they still had a very cool quality to them. Their last effort, The Seduction of Claude Debussy was particularly cool and even reminiscent of some of their earlier work. Sure wish we had seen more Art of Noise. Hopefully they'll put out one more. Fear is the mind-killer.

"Moments in Love" is definitely a song that will stand the test of time, really romantic. Funny I was listening to "The Best of" this morning while I was getting ready to go. I like "Legacy"or Legs as it is said on the song, "Something Always Happens," and "Beat Box" (Diversion 1),which had a hip hop flair to it. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!
"It's just my imagination, once again running away with me."

Ack! Yeah...with Tom Jones no less! Actually it wasn't all that horrible, just blasphemous... OH DAYAMN! Their version of Kiss was GREAT. I'm sorry you folks are too young to appreciate the humor of TJ singing Kiss - but come on... he HAD the pipes and pumped some steroids into the previously falsetto song... and that sample from RELAX - the "HOOOAAAH!!" MAN I love that version. Sure, it's NOT the same as the original, but, if anything, they deserve props for making it into something NEW and DIFFERENT. AND JAMMING. Steely Dan sample in there too! Don't you remember! The Last Otan Track: www.funkmusician.com/what.mp3

I must admit that I couldn't listen to Moments in Love in a dark room. The album version got spooky towards the end! But it was all good!! And Beat Box was slammin'...the piano in the end was beautiful. Thanks, teller, for that memory! Tina (~!~)

I'm feelin the Art of Love in here
It's true--Tom Jones really did sing Kiss with some balls. You guys all need to run out and get a copy of The Seduction of Claude Debussy now. Some very nice AoN sounds on there. Fear is the mind-killer.

Those were the days...Beatbox is what got me started on AoN. "Legs" is still one of my all time favorites. Fear is the mind-killer.

Ha! I remember breakin to that song in a performance I did with ma crew in 6th grade. "That...magic, the start of something revolutionary-the Minneapolis Sound, we should cherish it and not punish prince for not being able to replicate it."-Dreamshaman32

my perfect mix of Art of Noise:
Who's Afraid: Beatbox Diversion 1 Moments in Love Close (To The Edit) Who's Afraid Into Battle: Moment in Love In Visible Silence: Camilla Paranoia Legs Instruments of Darkness Eye of A Needle b-sides: Why Me, A Nation Rejects In No Sense, Nonsense: Ode to Don Jose Crusoe Below the Waste: Catwalk Island Robinson Crusoe I didn't keep up with them too much after that. Is the Seduction of Claude Debussy any good?

It is--it's worth a look. Lots of good beats with Anne Dudley's characteristic piano bits, heavily produced by Trevor Horn (which for AoN is a good thing, right?). It does have a good bit of talking during the segues...kinda like TRC...but they don't really detract from the overall package. Btw...I thought "The Chameleon's Dish" on In Visible Silence was highly underrated...neat track! Fear is the mind-killer.
