Why Do The Grammys Like These People So Much?

U2 - 22 Grammys

Beyonce - 16 Grammys

Aretha Franklin - 18 Grammys

Bruce Springsteen - 20 Grammys

Stevie Wonder - 22 Grammys

Was it simply the competition their respective years or is it something more? Why do the Beatles only have 6 Grammys? Why do Queen & Diana Ross have none?

Stevie's a freaking genius. I understand that choice.

The rest...eh. Bruce is alright in my books.

BUT Diana Ross should get one damn it. And Beyoncé has 16??? disbelief

I'll agree in that Stevie is the only TRUE genius of the group. As for Bruce and Aretha, they're ok as for U2 its a political thing. And lets be honest. I'm a casual fan of Beyonce but 16 grammys is a but TOO much! especially for one who really doesnt write her hits and doesn't even play an instrument.

lol I never thought Prince fans would care this much about grammys, honestly. Because the fact that Prince has 7 grammys says a lot about the award show, at least to me.

I just don't really care about the grammys at all. It's nice to see great performances on award shows but really, that's all. Just like Rolling Stone reviews, it's just their opinions. U2 or whoever else having more grammys than Prince doesn't mean anything 2 me razz

Why are you making this about Prince? So I guess if a U2 fan on a U2 forum started the same thread... would you say the same thing?

This isnt about: who has MORE grammys than Prince LOL

FUCK the Grammys and FUCK everybody on that list except for Stevie, Aretha and Bruce.

And I had NO idea QUEEN HAS ZEROE GRAMMYS!!!

Not that it matters I just thought they at least had 3... DAMN... The grammys dont care about artistic quality,... just what sells at least over this past decade anyway and currently..

The last memory I have of really enjoying that TV show is of almost 30 years ago:

The Ponter Sisters singing a medley including jump, Automatic (I guess) and I'm so excited.

Donna Summer with She Works Hard For The Money and Sheila E.

And Of course, when MJ discovered he didn't have enough hands to hold his.

I don't remember if those were the same year

This must be the one

Grammys are voted on by the industry itself. Diane Ross doesn't have any because no one vored for her lame ass to get one, duh, LOL

Grammy voters = priducers, engineers, fellow recording artists, etc,

It is not People's Choice Awards or Americna Music Awards or the b.s. Soul Train Music Awards or the BET Awards.

Like the Oscars are voted on by actors, actresses, producers, directors, writers

that pay their dues and have the qulaifying amount of films,

Emmys are for tv actors, actresses, etc.

Tonys, for Broadway actors, actresses, etc.

Grammy voters have to pay yearly dues and have been a part of at least 7 different commercially released recordings and such can be verified.

In the urban music world, studies have shown that many acts are not members, mainly due to not knowing the procedure to join. When the Neptunes were not nominated for Best Non-Classical Producers several years back, there was an outcry of foul by them - but guess what, they were not NARAS members and didn;t find out the criteria till after they bitched about it.

Many legendary Black artists are not members, and if they were to join, they could make a difference in some of the voting outcome.

It is not surprising that more mainstream palatable acts when sometimes - the mainstream producers, acts and engineers belong and vote.

I can just see Berry Gordy telling Marvin, Martha, Jr. Walker, Levi, Eddie, David, and Florence to join NARAS, hell he probably didn't know himself for quite awhile, thus Diane had no foundation of support for the nominating ballots or the eventual votes cast.

Record labels or NARAS members have to submit the potential nominating works.

I still don't like Allison Krauss being called the female with the most Grammys. She achieved the great bulk of hers as a member of a group - Union Station.

Thats why the same people win and are constantly nominated.... Its the comittee who votes

If they had some old heads on there and a more diverse background of music engineers their would be a chance of a more wide range of nominations but like you said I think it is because most people dont know how to...

Eh, not really. She was always billed as the lead artist. It was Alison Krauss and Union Station, never just Union Station.

Do you feel the same way about the following:

Prince and the Revolution/NPG

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band

Joan Jett and the Blackhearts

Are the above groups or a solo artist with a backing band?

I don't mind any of the people on the list, I think their grammy's are well deserved, EXCEPT for Beyonce of course.

With the exception of a few songs, her music is extremely mediocre and forgettable for the most part. Not one of her albums have been incredible or what I would say "classic". Her music catalogue is weak.

Beyonce does not deserve 16 grammy's.

I think the grammys now more than ever is very very narrow minded, though people said that in the past, i think now its true more than ever. I really have no issue with that list, i mean looking at who these artists beat out they actually beat out talented artists most of the time, Beyonce in many cases didnt beat the most "talented" bunch for her awards. U2 did beat out alot of great artists for their awards, and for people to say that things like the "Joshua Tree" and "All that You Cant Leave" and "Achtung" and others werent deserving of nominations thats just sour grapes for them beating someone you thought was better, that outcome is always subjective. But the narrowmindedness now is why you have things happening were someone sweeps the night and the entire nomination field, now i have no problem with Adele, or in the past people like Norah Jones or Alicia taking over a night, its just when they dont dig deep into a category to find someone else to nominate, we all know this is true, i mean the industry has struck oil with Adele and to capitalize they are going to milk it for all its worth, just like they did to Norah and Alicia and others.
