People always make a big deal when a Michael Jackson record is broken. But whatever. You may find a better dancer, a better singer, a better composer etc. But he was so many things in one package that pretty much makes all comparisons ilogical. Thats why there are tons of people mad at him even after death because their favorite artist could not even compare to Michael Jackson even if that artist is a better musician, better dancer etc. Let them suck it.

I love Katy Perry's cheap catchy pop and I do not apologize for it. So I wish her the best. But yeah, next to Michael she is barely noticeable.

A lot of people may not be MJ enthusiasts but they will always dance to MJ if he's played at parties or performed. This happened for years before his death and continued on in death. Those people are the general public, not diehards like here. To them, he would just be someone on their playlist with one or two tracks if any, he wouldn't be erased completely.

All right. What fans of artists from the 70-90s you know in real life? Personally, I do not know any. If you are not specifically looking for like-minded people.
I understand the difference between legend and current popular artist. So although I love retro music more, I try to listen to contemporary songs, too.
The fact that Katy is very far from the artist, who can replace a legend, to bring something new and interesting, she is absolutely not interesting and not charismatic. I vote for a replacement, but adequate and comparable.

Katy and Rihanna having more number ones than MJ has nothing to do with MJ's legacy!! But gosh Katy's songs sooo boring When they start playing her songs at clubs u know that's when people STOP dancing and start talking to each other....it's that boring!!!!

More well known? I think he's past 30 years is included in the 5 most famous people in the world, but the last 10-15 years, people knew more about his scandals and problems, than about his music.

Let's just say that MJ had a bad reputation, death just a little to rehabilitate him in the eyes of the public.

The thing is, so many people from my generation (and kids), almost didn't really know Michael at all before his death. I mean they'd heard of the name Michael Jackson obviously, but mostly from shows like South Park..In many ways, I think many teenagers became a fan of his because they finally got to see his cool music videos and got to really listen to his music after his death...not because they suddenly felt sorry for his untimely passing.

That's true, probably a lot of them are not really huge fans like me, but hey they don't need to be I'm happy that I can at least talk about MJ's music with my friends (and getting MJ's new album for my bday present!) which is something I can never do when it comes to Prince (I guess I always come here when I wanna babble about Prince lol). Oh I didnt give a fuck... and was always ready to cuss or argue...

If your a real fan of anything what others think is not going to matter

I had a cycle of being totally quiet for awhile, and then totally flaunting for awhile in 2001-2006 or so ,though I was quiet for sometime before it and probably cause nothing was out. I was flaunting it and didn't give a fuck and it resulted in performing to him and people remembering that positive part about him at a time he was being bashed and remembering that when he died. It's not that I didn't flaunt him if he came up after, but I was so burnt out from defending him and took it so personally if anyone put him down, and felt he made it easy to be accused at the time, so I felt a little bit resentful. So if I mentioned anything, it really depended on who I was talking to and the context, so really, those who deserved to know that were openminded and if it was related to performing. I just found that if I didn't act like a fanatic, I'm not leaving doors open for criticism anymore but people saw through me and lots contacted me to see if I'm okay when he passed away.

I agree high school was hard for me, the time between BOTDF and Invincible, but in junior high most people loved mj and janet, as it was the HIStory era. Towards the end of high school, people thought mj was cool, but they were also critical of him saying he's not good anymore though I did know people who liked him. I also knew many people during high school that did not go to my school that LOVED mj and I was so relieved, I have good memories of that and feel blessed I met people like that, but didn't realize it then, I was worried they would make fun of me cause I was too self absorbed and worried about those who were negative.
