Were These Regional Hits? "D" Train & T.S. Monk

When I was younger and living in NY I remember these song being huge hits. My question is for everyone else throughout the country and the world I guess, where these songs big hits in your city? Were they played regularly on your local radio stations, club, etc.?

Side Note: I didn't know T.S. Monk was the son of the Jazz legend Thelonious Monk until a couple of years ago. Hell I never knew the name of the artist of this jam until then too. I was a shorty back then. I just remember liking that song that mentioned New York in it.

Here's a lil' mo D Train for good measure:

Both were club hits at least in Cali.

Both got airplay on the West Coast.

I don't want you to think like me. I just want you to think.

These songs got enough play that a certain org personality covers one of the tracks in their concerts, much to the chagrin of show attendees who spent pages bitching about it this past summer in the Concert forum. If the song is still on the playlist when the tour reboots in Canada, expect more bitching and moaning.

That was half the fun, reading post after post about Shelby sining at any point of a show instead of staying on the side. I love the song by D-Train, its still a funky today as it was in 80 something ( don't know its particular year of release ) .

I always enjoy hearing the parts of songs that were used in samples when the source song is played. That intro from T. S. Monk is quite obvious if you know Public Enemy. Honestly, that track didn't get much play out here in The Yay Bay in the early 80's but I was just a youngin' then and didn't know any better. Thanks for this thread MS, I'm diggin' it.

Those songs were real popular in central and Northern California. We use to Bump the f*** outta them jams, especially D Train. Bon Bon Vie was tight but D Train was the monster.

Yeah Suprman, same here. I was in high school at that time and im from the Bay Area. I had many a good nights jammin and partying to them songs. Man i miss radio stations like KSOL and KDAY(Los Angeles).

Off topic.

I always wondered how popular that song Firecracker (by Yellow Magic Orchestra)was. The 12 inch was pretty popular in central california but what about the rest of the country ? I know they were on Soul Train so i assume it was well known.

Rest in Peace Bettie Boo. See u soon.
