Ahhh! the R. Kelly produced Aaliyah days smile

i like the album, but it seemf R was trying hard to make her seem like a badass party girl. And she just didn't have that image ever to me......

And i can't help but think it's beyond ironic. The accusations of them being married & having the album & single Age Ain't Nothing But A Number lol it's to hard for me to not overlook that:P

Yes this is a back in the day jam.. that I just rediscovered today lol

This is a nice new jack swing cut from her...wish she could have done more with that genre..

I found that to be ironic as well lol

I exactly thought the rumor with him and Aaliyah was true.. so it was just a rumor? Thats a good thing if it is. Aaliyah will always be a sweet angel... she couldnt be badass if she tried wink

Well idk... they had court papers apparently. Aaliyah just said people misunderstood the whole thing. But R never spoke about her again even after her tragic death... It's one of those Hollywood stories where we will never know mad

This album was ok.. But OIAM was what solidified her lane.. That album gave Aaliyah her "swag" (I hate that word). Tim and Missy really took her to the next level.. not to mention she got prettier as time went on cool

Yea I am afraid so. I think the reason why he probably avoids discussing her is because of the whole marriage rumor and that isnt a good look especially after his sex scandel so thats a possible reason. I feel he could at least maybe speak on songs or albums he worked on with her and how she was creatively

Her debut album is probaly my favorite album of hers. R Kellys writing and production worked so well with Aaliyah's voice and style. I'd love to hear outtakes from that session.

Side note: I just came across this clip of Aaliyah discussing her role in the film "Sparkle". Never seen this before and I never even knew she talked about it

Here is the remake of the "Giving Up" record she did for the film

I was always confused about this. She was set to play Sparkle (per Whitney) but she recorded "Giving Up" which was performed by Sister. I always thought she was gonna play Sister...

Such ashame she's no longer with us. I have always loved her music. One of the best female R&B artists to start their career around the mid 90's.

Isn't it common knowledge that Chester Molester aka R. Kelly was screwing the shit out of Aaliyah? lol

evidently not because if so she was smart enough to demand wifey status

not videoed...
not pissed on...
and in some states not even considered molested....

I would for a teenage girl getting into trouble with her first love, she actually played it real smart.

Say what you want but R. Kelly is a creep that has a fetish for underdeveloped pussy. And He took advantage of a young Aaliyah.

Sounds like you're self-projecting and you have no proof that he "took advantage" of Aaliyah. I find it funny that people want to paint Aaliyah as some kind of innocent angel.

Aaliyah, like most teenaged girls, crush on older men. R.kelly, took full advantage of that and maniupulated her. However, Aaliyah was smart about it, theres no footage of her getting peed on or any child pornography. EVen after the fact, Aaliyah handled the situtation like an adult. She didn't use the situation for publicity or anything of the sort.

That awkward moment when this thread was supposed to be about Aaliyah's MUSIC but takes a turn and becomes the topic of R Kelly and his "alleged" marriage and his "alleged" sex tape...

Manipulate her? LOL! You obviously don't know what you're talking about. There were people within both of their camps that commented on Aaliyah being the mature one of the two. It's hilarious that people view Aaliyah as some kind of innocent angel, lol. But whatever...

So anyways to get back on track

This was a pretty good album Down With The clique, Age Ain't Nothing But A Number, No One Loves Me Like I Do, At your Best etc.

But some tracks just make me hrmph

Down With the Clique lol Street Thing, Young Nation.

Aalyah wasn a wild or party girl.... so these songs seem way to Kelly for me to hear this girls ing them

Aaliyah sang her songs in a falsetto. She felt that the songs "came at you kind of tough, a bit edgy, hip-hop, but the vocals can be very soothing"

She went on to say, "lyrically I want things to be different."

I refuse to listen to the entire album because I think R.'s type of music rubbed off on Aaliyah and she didn't really get to shine. That's why she changed directions drastically following her split from R. in '95.

Well i think Aaliyah was a great and even important R&B artist. But some on the org think she is overrated and unworthy & should be dissed razz

She had some of the best produced R&B of the 90's and some of the best 90's songs to.... i don't get the dislike

I dont either because she had a far more greater impact than alot of other folks I can name but wont... not saying she is the greatest ever to hit the scene but she had alot of good cuts...
