Dude stood out (and no I don't mean because of his weight LOL).

"Peaceful journey" (the song) was one of my favs by him. Has a new meaning now....

Another fav was the ragga track he did called "body and mind". Lovely song. Not on youtube though.

I remember him in movies too. "Life" "cider house rules".....

Invited to Ultra-Private Funeral Heavy D will be laid to rest at a very private funeral ceremony in New York next Friday -- and TMZ has learned only a select number of the rapper's famous friends have been invited to attend. We're told Heavy's family has organized a public viewing on Thursday -- and anyone who wants to pay tribute to the hip hop legend is encouraged to show up. But the following day, the burial service is V.I.P. only -- and the invite list only includes close members of Heavy's family and dear friends, such as Diddy, Mary J. Blige, a few of the Wayans brothers ... and others. We're told Eddie F and G-Whiz -- former members of Heavy D and the Boyz -- are also on the invite list. TMZ broke the story, Heavy D passed away on Tuesday at his home in Beverly Hills. He was 44-years-old.

Funeral planned for Heavy D at historic NY church

MOUNT VERNON, N.Y. (AP) — A private funeral for rap legend Heavy D will be held at a historic black Baptist church in a northern suburb of New York City.

Grace Baptist Church of Mount Vernon announced Friday that the funeral for Heavy D had been scheduled for Nov. 18.

The New York-born rapper died at a Los Angeles hospital Tuesday after collapsing outside his home. He was 44.

Dwight Arrington Myer was the titular member of Heavy D and the Boyz, which had hits with "Now That We Found Love," ''Who's the Man" and "Somebody for Me."

He was one of the genre's top stars in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

Grace Baptist Church's website says its congregation was founded by five black women in 1888.

By St. Boogar and all the saints at the backside door of Purgatory!

I just finished watching the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards and am very saddened by what they're calling Hip Hop today. I'll blame myself for not even knowing who most of the "performers" were, but I found myself fast-forwarding through most of that garbage.

The best part, in my opinion, and the whole reason why I wanted to watch it was because I had heard that Heavy D performed on it, and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. But what really got me was that through the whole show the audience was acting like they were going to lose their damned minds over them damned fools jumping around on stage and shouting who-knows-what, but when Heavy D came on with some REAL lyrical content along with actual choreography, they acted like they were sitting on their hands!

I'm officially DONE with what they're calling Hip Hop today, lol. No more need to even TRY and get it, lol. I'm DONE!
