Heavy D update: (per Reuben Traynham) Heavy D had just returned from shopping and walked up some stairs when he began having trouble breathing. Adam Mills, a designer who was in the building and knew Heavy D, found him leaning against a railing and clearly in distress. Adam tells us he cradled Heavy D in his lap as others called 911. Adam says Heavy D was conscious and said to him, "I can't breathe, I can't breathe." When paramedics took Heavy D to the hospital he had a pulse. People in the building are saying he died of a heart attack, but we have not been able to confirm that. Law enforcement sources tell us ... no foul play was involved and so far they only know the cause of death was "medical."

"Heavy D is the person who gave me my 1st chance in the music industry. He got me my internship at Uptown. He Believed when no one else did."

One of our radio dj's here in Philly, Lady B., said D was one of those people who would have you laughing within minutes of meeting him, he was always in good spirits. They spent the last two hours of her show playing nothing but his music, I'd forgot how many hits he had on his own and with collabos he did. RIP Brother D

I really believe that. He was one of the very few people of the many that I follow on Twitter who's tweets I actually looked forward to getting. He wasn't always trying to sell or promote something. He always had an inspirational quote or a kind word or two in response to a fan that wanted him to know they cared. He just felt very genuine. A wonderful rarity in the world of celebrity. I'm gonna really miss him. sad

I used to pump some Heavy D. back in the day. I remember seeing him open for Public Enemy on the Fear Of A Black Planet tour on a bill that included EPMD,Big Daddy Kane & Digital Underground, those we're good times.
RIP Heavy.

eek Wow. I just started a thread here about Heav a few days ago. May God comfort and strengthen his family and friends who mourn. I've always felt that Uptown Records was the house that Heav built. Such a rare, positive force in the world is gone. sad Thankfully his music and memory will forever be with us.
