He was on "Bones" not too long ago playing the bartender. From what I read, definitely one of the hardest-working entertainers doing it. RIP

Hev's verse here still hits home. Still the pinnacle of hip-hop in my eyes…

Aiyo, here's the situation: idiocy

Nonsense, violence, not a good policy

Therefore, we must ignore fightin' and fussin'

Hev is at the door so there'll be no bum-rushin'

Let's get together 'cause we're falling apart

I heard a brother shot another, it broke my heart

I don't understand the difficulty, people

Love your brother, treat him as an equal

They call us animals

I don't agree with them

I'll prove 'em wrong

But right is what you're provin' 'em

Take heed before I lead to what I'm sayin'

Or we'll all be on our knees, prayin'

eek What the hell happened?!! I just saw him in an interview on cable last week (I don't know how old the interview was) and he seemed to be doing well with weight loss and living healthier! The man was younger than me. I so sorry to hear this. RIP Heavy D. sad

True hip-hop pioneer. He inadvertently helped to create hip-hop soul too. After Mary, he produced Monifah's entire first two albums, especially the first one, which had his genius on it.

He also gave Puff the idea to market Biggie as a heartthrob.

Rap legend Heavy D dies at 44

By DERRIK J. LANG, AP Entertainment Writer – 1 hour ago

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Heavy D, the self-proclaimed "overweight lover" of hip-hop who became one of rap's top hit-makers with wit, humor and a positive vibe, has died. He was 44. Andrew Weitz of William Morris Endeavor Entertainment confirmed the rapper's death in Los Angeles in an email Tuesday, without giving a cause of death or saying where he died. Weitz declined to provide further details on Heavy D's death.

Dwight Arrington Myers, the rapper known as Heavy D of Heavy D and the Boyz, and his crew released their debut album "Living Large" in 1987. Their hits included "Now That We Found Love," ''Who's the Man" and "Somebody For Me."

The New York-born rapper was one of the genre's most integral stars in the last 1980s and early 1990s, as it relied on new voices and star power to fuel its phenomenal growth in the mainstream.

The deep-voiced rapper's earliest hit, "The Overweight Lover's in the House," played up his hefty frame. But while that nickname would stick, his weight did not become part of his shtick, like the Fat Boys. What drew people to his music was his singular style, which celebrated an easygoing, party vibe — sometimes humorous, sometimes inspiring and almost always positive.

In the mid-1990s, Heavy D became president of Uptown Records, the label that released most of his albums and was also the home to acts like Mary J. Blige and Jodeci. He also created the theme songs for sketch comedy shows "In Living Color" and "MADtv" and acted on the TV shows "Boston Public" and "The Tracy Morgan Show," as well as in the films "Life" and "Step Up.

Combined with the fusion of the "New Jack Swing" musical style, Heavy D was a constant presence on the charts, and also a go-to figure for several performers. He collaborated with such artists as Michael Jackson on the 1991 single "Jam" and the 1997 duet "Keep It Coming" with B.B. King.

His latest album, "Love Opus," was released in September, and he performed a medley of his past hits at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards last month.

He also had a cameo appearance in the new movie "Tower Heist," starring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller.

AP Music Writer Nekesa Mumbi Moody continued to this report.

I knew when I saw his name on the Yahoo trending most searched things, I went, "Oh, damnit. Please don't be dead." And then I clicked and saw the headline that he died and was like, "Damnit!!"

This makes me sad. Another one of the people who were always on the radio during my childhood. (I'm a 90s kid damnit!) Hope the police find out what the reason of death was.

I swear if Mr. Cooper or Jaleel White passes away next, I'm gonna be one unhappy 90s kid!

Well yes we already know that but I'm just saying, Joe Frazier just died and now Heavy D is gone so suddenly. My point is, this week, the grim reaper is definitely knocking on common doors.

Wait.. we still don't know the cause of death do we? It could have been some recent bout with pneumonia for all we know...or some strange case of food poisoining or an anneurism (sp). I mean he was apparently just arriving home judging by the OP link. Just crazy to fall out like that at aged 44 when days/weeks earlier you appeared to be in good health. As far as I know, he had no history with drug/alchohol abuse right? I don't even think he was that heavy. I mean given his appearance on the BET awards, he is not what I would consider obese/overweight to the point of it being a health concern.
