The Heat Is On vs Boys Of Summer

Two big solo hits by Eagles' members. Which of the two do you prefer and why?

BOS because of the melody and the intrumentation. It's synth driven but still organic. The lyrics are great and melancholy as well as meaningful. Don can also sing his ass off.

The Heat Is On is so corny sounding and blah. Sounding like a broke down version of a Bob Segar song. Tjat sax...gawd.

The vids are also the same in sentiment for me.

I prefer Boys of Summer too for the melody, hook and groove, and it makes me feel like Im going to miss someone and the sun has gone down. I hated that I knew the song for years from the radio and couldnt figure out what it was until I finally had a computer near me and typed the lyrics.

I knew Heat Is On since the mid 80s though it was in flashes, I remember the video airing with Eddie Murphy in it cause of the soundtrack but not knowing who he was yet, and my parents blasting it in the car constantly, so I had loved this one for years, especially with the key change in the chorus after the saxophone hook, but BOS is way better I agree.

Boys of Summer, hands down! All of Don Henley's solo work is outstanding, in my opinion.

If you live in southern California, it reminds you of the coast near sundown, yes.

Yeah it really sounds like a summer song, I believe it was summer of 86 or 87 when I heard it.

Boys of Summer sounds like early fall, since we get a real fall here lol

Boys of summer, for one it brings back many good memories of the summer of 08 for me! And my senior year that same year. But also cause the melody as mentioned I think is much better, don is a better singer & songwriter.... so hands down bos for me.
Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

I have always hated "The Heat Is On." It was way too corny and pop for my taste.
