New Music: Raheem Devaughn - Freedom Fighter (Mixtape)
November 1, 2011
After being arrested at an Occupy D.C. demonstration on Oct. 15, a fire was lit under soul/R&B crooner Raheem DeVaughn. He immediately hit the studio to compile his most socially conscious works to date. The end result isFreedom Fighter, a politically charged affair that he says serves as the soundtrack to the movement of the 99 percent vs. the 1 percent. Your thoughts on the politics involved aside, you can't deny DeVaughn's pipes or his songwriting ability. He's also got some of his more famous friends on here to boot, including Bun B, Ludacris, Bilal, Jill Scott, and Dwele.

*Downloads immediately* This may allow me to forgive Mr. Devaughn for both the disappointing Love & War Masterpiece and those lousy singles he has been dropping lately. Check me out and add me on:

Why was there not a fire lit when he released that garbage? But this is a good gesture though.

That's what I'm saying. I wasn't necessarily surprised at what I heard from that Love & War Masterpiece album last year, but I did expect it to be a winner just as much as its lead single, "Bulletproof" was. A shame that an arrest had him reconsider some things and release a better product. This mixtape game is interesting. Check me out and add me on:

I almost wanted to say he's a hypocrite... let me know how it is though I feel odd he had to have all those guests on it. Why not do it himself? I don't get these artists...

You didn't like the Love and Ware Masterpiece? I liked about half of it. I thought it was his 2nd best effort. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

No I really didn't. I found it to be repetitious on so many levels and nothing really stood out to me except "Bulletproof." I tried to give it some more listens, but had to turn it off after the fourth complete listen. Worse of all, I brought the deluxe 2-CD version... Check me out and add me on:

"Homeless" is soul stirring and gripping, as are so many other compositions. I need to live with this release awhile before I decide on my favorites. [Edited 11/1/11 23:22pm]

Ahh....I just bought the one cd version. For some reason, my mind told me not to get hte 2cd version. Maybe that's why I liked it, it was condensed down. **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

I've been a Raheem fan from the beginning but really the Love and War Masterpiece was a big disappointment. I'm excited to hear about this Freedom Fighter download, which I'll listen to when I get off from work...I was starting to lose interest in latest musical offerings, but maybe this mixtape will help turn things around. I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
