Janet WHEN I THINK OF YOU appreciation

Janet's first #1 hit made her and her brother Michael the only siblings to have solo #1s on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Being just 20 years old at the time, it also made Janet the youngest artist since Stevie Wonder to have a Hot 100 #1. The music video (filmed on one of the soundstages used in old MGM movies) contained choreography by Paula Abdul and legendary choreographer Michael Kidd, and was helmed by motion picture director Julien Temple. The clip was similar to a scene in his own film "Absolute Beginners" (which starred David Bowie and Sade Adu), and is noted for being seamless and without cuts, from beginning to end (close examination of the video shows that there are actually a few minor cuts).

"The Young and the Restless" actor Michael Muhney tweeted about the song a couple of days ago

I wasn't feeling it when I first discovered it in the 90's, Nasty, Pleasure Principle and Control hit me harder. But once I came to appreciate it, I loved the way it was filmed and she looks so happy and carefree here, that smile is priceless smile

As a kid growing up in the '80s, I remember it being all over radio back then.

I didn't know Janet for some reason until the 90's, and if I did know of her in the 80's, it had to have been through hearing her on the radio and not realizing though I don't recall her at all though I recall tons of others. I knew michael and jermaine in the 80's though lol but it turned out my aunt had the Control album, I realized it when I became a fan!

I love her smiles and the routine best, I think this one really took time to appreciate, but my fave vids are nasty and pleasure principle from this era, and that cool summer mix smile

Probably my favorite song from Control... I edited the Dance Remix so it would be like the video version. music

The Dance Mix is slammin'. Love the "Bass" part. Back in the day, I used to think it was MJ singing the "Oh ah oh ah pump it Janet" ad-libs" toward the end.

Yeah it does, I used to think the beatboxing sounded like MJ too, though I knew it wasn't.

I don't know why I feel like Nasty or What Have You Done For Me Lately have ended up being the most remembered over time, but that's how it seems to me.

I think they probably are. Nasty and Lately are two of her signature songs.

Yeah for sure those are her signatures, though I also think Together Again is as well. Out of all of Janet's songs, I hear that one the most on the radio now if I catch her. I used to hear lots of her songs, but not anymore though when I do, it's not as often as before. I hear tons of Michael though I heard him before death as well.

The choreography is cool, but the video didn't do much for me. Probably her weakest video from that album if you ask me, but the song is very cute. I really love it.

"When I Think of You" is the best Control-era video for my money.

Yes. I love that one, too (it's my 2nd favorite). There is definitely a lot to be said for its simplicity, but WITOY has always been more intriguing, engrossing, and fun to me. Janet looks so damn happy in it; it's infectious.

It's that smile. Janet's smile is infectious! The song is upbeat and happy and the video reflects that, but I watched it the other day and was a little bored. Plus the video version had too much dialogue during the times when Janet was supposed to be singing. I found it distracting and it took away from the song.

"Pleasure Principle" is one of her best video's ever though, might be my fave of hers. I can never decide between that and "Rhythm Nation".

It is very cutesy and sugary, I guess I have to be in the mood for it. Escapade and Alright hit me much harder than this.

And I love edgy, fierce Janet best too.
