CONTROL vs RHYTHM NATION which one do you prefer?
hell, I choose Control. That album bleeds 80s, pure mid-80s sound, and it changed the rules of the game, specially for R&B, as we all know. That new sound got dull quickly but originally it was sweet. The album is short (no filler), the album tracks are just as good as the singles...
RN, on the other hand, sounds a bit dull, sorry, too-late 80s for my taste (in other words, the dull version of Control's original sound), the drums are too much, and the basslines don't breathe at all, and the whole concept is a bit high-handed...(of course, the title-track is still Janet's best song)...
opinions?

Album, Rhythm Nation RN contains virtually no filler. Control however does. Both albums are awesome and changed music. Pleasure Principle and Nasty are genius songs but lyrically and musically don't compare to songs like Black Cat and The Knowledge.

Janet's music always had a time stamp to it, but they were always consistent and great songs
I think Rhythm Nation is the best album of her catalogue start to finish, I love all the songs and videos of that era, and the routines are great. She developed confidence that was beginning to show during Control, and was evident the most towards the end of the era in Pleasure Principle and her AMA's and Grammy performances.

Those videos are the best of the era and the songs too

RN is best. it's one of the best things jam and lewis did. control has some great tracks, but RN is certainly a progression in the right place, to the top, from control

I dig Control, don't get me wrong, definitely a legendary album but something about Rhythm Nation has a personal edge to me, can't quite understand why, it just is. That was the beginning of my childhood so to speak, being in kindergarten and seeing this beautiful woman dressed in all black breaking it down in her videos. It was like an edgier Control with a deeper message.

It's all about Control for me, Rhythm Nation is a close second IMO.

With tracks like 'What Have You Done For Me Lately' and 'Nasty', Control takes priority in my books

'Control' is an album of love songs with balls. 'Rhythm Nation' has something to say and the sound makes 'Control's balls shrivel up.
Both are great albums but has to be 'RN'.
Can't buck the trend on this one. Searching to find what we lost along the way.

Rhythm Nation, also her best album.

Control for me. RN is edgier, definitely a statement album, and her opus to date. But Control made me do a double take and pay attention to "Miss Jackson". That album promised big things to come.

Control.. But Rhythm nation 1814 holds some significance to me; went to the show in wembley for free and she gave me a signed drumstick..

RHYTHM NATION [Edited 10/31/11 13:22pm] Yeah it's like "oh you mocked me for liking him but now he's dead it's cool to play him again?" And then they look at you funny when you don't play him. -Timmy on after 6-25 fans
