I tried vainly to find a pic of Anita Baker earlier. I hope she wasn't a no-show.

Looking forward to seeing Sharon jones & The Dapp Kings...I fell in love with them last year...Chaka is looking Good in that Leather...
I saw Estelle perform LIVE on TV a month ago and she has an unforgettable Voice...And what else can one say about Jill "Sensational" Scot? She'll represent Philly with Super-Soul. They should have invited Pink...Pink would have turned that place OUT...

Yeah, I was about to say wasn't it reported that Anita was added to the lineup? I wonder what happened?
I know they don't have Martha Reeves' off-key, caterwauling ass up there! "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

For the most part so far these people sound horrible. Chaka Khan all off key, Marsha effing up "Sweet Love", and Martha Reeves a total shipwreck. How you gonna do soul music salute and not have Aretha, Gladys, Betty Wright and even Diana there. Was VH1's budget too low? Music Royalty in Motion

Why in the HELL is Florence here? She's fucking tone deaf.

This has really been a decent Divas concert, but is it me or are too many folks too off-key. Travis McCoy and Estelle... Check me out and add me on:

Half of these singers I've never heard of. they have a couple of people on here now who are totally butchering Harold Melvin's "Wake Up".
And that Amy Winehouse tribute? Just awful!!! Who was the little, confused old lady in the pink jacket? She acted as if she wandered away from the old folks home and onto the VH1 stage. And who the hell is that british chick? OMG! She's atrocious!!!! Jill Scott is even sounding horrible.
And Martha Reeves? The poor thing. [Edited 12/19/11 19:10pm] "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Man I couldn't watch after five minutes. It fucking sucks.
And some of these fools, as Khia would say, are "tired, through and delayed". Whatever...

Yeah Florence and Jessie J just weren't cool. Why are Boyz II Men on this show? Are they considered "soul?" Show ratings? Check me out and add me on:

The elder woman was Wanda Jackson, aka the Queen of Rockabilly. I think she sounds better doing her own stuff than Amy's brand of soul. The British woman was that Florence chick from Florence & The Machine.

That's what I'm saying. I guess VH1 needed those ratings. Out of all of the singers, Kelly Clarkson (YEP...Kelly), Ledisi, Sharon Jones, Jill Scott, and Jennifer Hudson held their own. Mary J was overshouting to the last degree, Florence was just out of place, Jessie J was chaotic, Marsha just messed up, and Martha Wells Check me out and add me on:

Nope. Not liking the show.

I love Sharon. Missed Ledisi (seriously she has mad talent). Missed the rest. LOL @ "Martha Wells". I know you meant Martha Reeves.

Martha Reeves sounded like sheep shit in shallowed ass water, banging a tambourine like a off key choir singer. Ledisi demolished Anita's "Sweet Love" and Sharon took Amy's "You Know I'm No Good" to the next level. As much as I hate to say this, but Sharon should've been given Back to Black album back in 2007. She sounded excellent on that cut. Check me out and add me on:

I don't know what went wrong with her voice. She sounded so great during her heyday. Sometime after her bad acid trip in 1968 or 1969, something went wrong because she's been sounding a mess ever since. I think I read somewhere that her bad acid trip affected not only her psyche (she went into a mental ward for a minute before returning to performing with the Vandellas) but also her voice. And at this point I can believe it.

I really liked the opening. Now after that: Too much singing over each other. I couldn't even hear Badu when Mavis and Chaka did their song together. Mavis kept singing Call Tyrone Travie messed up, he and Estelle didn't sound good at all. Teddy he ain't. The older ladies sounded off & the groups weren't meshing well.

Somebody should have told Questlove that not all ideas that look good on paper, actually sound good in real life. The intro with Mary, Kelly, and Jennifer worked well though. I actually was surprised at how well it worked. Mary singing "Real Love" in a 60's style was brilliant. Didn't see that one coming.

All of the white girls they had on there didn't have anything remotely to do with Soul/R&B music. It was like having Niki Maniaj and Rhianna perform on a tribute show to Country music. It was not necessary. There are so many other R&B performers they could have invited but they choose Rock singers instead? I don't get it. This was not a TRUE tribute to Soul music.
And most of the performances were sloppy. I can't say I was impressed by anyone last night. I've only watched like maybe 5 of the Vh1 Diva shows and this is probably the worst one I've seen. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Why was she even there? She didn't do anything during that particular performance. And it seemed as if both Badu's and Chaka's mics were turned way down. All of the collab performances seemed totally unrehearsed to me. "It's not nice to fuck with K.B.! All you haters will see!" - Kitbradley

Anita pulled out thats why Marsha took her place... DRAMA Nick Ashford was someone I greatly admired, had the honor of knowing, and was the real-life inspiration for Cowboy Curtis' hair. RIP Nick. - Pee Wee Herman

Damn Ahmir. You can create great music with the Roots and Badu and shit but when it comes to assembling shows with other performers, FAIL.

This Years Special was pretty Good...
Chaka was about to take-off in the beginning of the show. Rare to see her perform like that...
Jessi J. (Whoever she is) gave Jennifer Hudson a run for her money...The Chick can sang...
What in the Hell was Mary J. singing? I know 'Wrong" is her new single but that shit was nothing but a Bunch of FUSS...Why did "The Queen" choose a "B-track" for an "A-List" show?
Florence did pretty good. She was holding back with the "covers" but I'm starting to dig her..
Why Ledisi been holding back on showing those Thick-Sexy Legs? She's got Beautiful Legs and she can Sang..
Whoever is Producing Kelly Clarkson's albums always produces a radio hit single..
Sharon Jones is a class act. She brought Wanda back into the performance and saved-it...
Erykah & Jill were Hot...

as usual.. once you lower a standard (& call anybody a diva..)
most in this lineup have real talent
I like Mary J. a lot but
CHAKA
is the only real diva in this group..
oh well - they're doing this for the kids (in school) they would do well to keep their eyes on Chaka Khan..
I'll see you tonight..
