I've never heard Amy's. I have never been a fan so I've only heard like two songs by her.

First vocal version by King Pleasure, who wrote lyrics to James Moody's improvised solo.
Inspired Jon Hendricks to start writing lyrics to other improvised Jazz solos (vocalese).

The Chief Rocker Frankie Crocker (107.5 WBLS - NY) used to sign off to this song. I'm not sure which version he used. The Benson/Austin version is very nice. I didn't realized it was Pattie singing on it.

Keep looking, Timmy. If anybody can find a version by him, you can...

You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

That's a good question that I can't answer. Hundreds if not thousands.

It's based on this tune, strangely enough most familiar to many from this version...

...by Alfalfa from The Little Rascals.

You can hear Moody directly reference the "simply because you're near me" part of the melody and the chord changes are the same.
There was actually a lawsuit against Moody's Mood for Love by the composer of I'm In The Mood for Love.

I'll end with a lame lounge version...

...by Barry Manilow (partially rescued by the bg vocalist) lol
