Captain Beefheart= Trout Mask Replica

Ok, so i know many probably won't comment on this cause everyone's to busy worrying if Beyonce faked her pregnancy or talking smack on every current pop star then comparing them to MJ.

But for those who know this album, lets talk about this...

One of the most experimental albums of it's time, warped, insane, beautiful, and excited. This album has Beefheart who was given full control of the album by old pal Zappa, he does his best Howlin Wolf impression, while also doing his own thing.

Full of bluesy textures, jazz undertones, dark keyboard synths, thumping bass that go in & out unannounced. This album is a monster of sound & musicianship. And very stripped down

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

All music is shit music and no music is real- gunsnhalen

Hmm...what a great way to start a music discussion...

I believe that Captain Beefheart is dead now? I heard that he worked with Frank Zappa. I imagine that must have been a huge influence on him.

He has passed away, and yeah as he was saying up top Zappa produced this album. I'm suprised you like this, i didn't think you liked anyone lol

lol I just know of the album, but I have never gave it a good listen to yet even though a ton of people were recommending it. I listened to some of the tracks. It's interesting. Though, I think I prefer what I heard of Frank Zappa more though...

Also, I like some artists (maybe not a lot of them, but I do like some of them). What gave you the impression that I didn't?

Frank and Don lived in the same town as teenagers and became good friends, but it was an on again off again friendship. He lived as a painter for years in a nice town in north Cali called Trinidad, which is WAY up north.

He was so disinterested in music towards the end that he'd paint during his shows and let the band jam. He was making more money painting than he was doing shows. The reason why he looks so skinny in the later years is because when he painted, he didn't eat, he'd be painting for 3-4 days at a clip.

If you want the overview, track down "The Dust Blows Forward".
