Faith = 11 million in the U.S. alone

Listen Without Prejudice, Vol. 1 = 2 million in the U.S.

Older = I think 1 million (platinum)

Patience = gold (and I think part of that was from his Oprah appearance but who knows?)

Thanks. wow, what a difference between Listen Without Prejudice and Faith.

Faith is what I would call an "event album". George was one of the top artists of the '80s even before the album even came out so people waited with baited breath and Epic knew how to promote. I think George was Walter Yetnikoff's last client before Tommy Motolla became the president in 1989. George claimed his label afterwards tried to make him do a Faith II and he wanted to diverge so much from it that not only did LWP sound totally different from Faith, but that if he wanted, he didn't have to do no videos. I think he did no videos to make an example to Sony. That didn't work well lol

Faith broke a lot of records, and every single was a hit, hell even Hard Day got some dance & R&B play.

LWP... my favorite recrd of his smile

I find it odd Praying For Time went to umber 1... that is just not usually the type of song that would go to number 1. A Dark, political, accoustic ballad.

Mothers Pride was a minor it, because of the war happening and it being played a lot for mothers that had sons at war.

I think LWP was such a total 360 from Faith, much like Around The World in a day was to Purple Rain was or Tunnel Of Love from born In The U.S.A... Or Angel Dust from Faith No More after The Real Thing lol

When I was little I was under the assumption that "Freedom '90" was the #1 track of the country because I would see the video a lot on MTV. lol

Shit i still see the video lol strangely it only went to number 3 or 2.... like barely hitting 1..

But praying For Time? fantastic track just.... i can't see it being overplayed or anything lol that will forever be a mysterly number 1 to me.

Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Yes, it's supposed to be a gay collective doing house music. I'm not too big on that either I like the soul/funk from him too.

It just seems stereotypical he would do a "house music" album...

He said on Twitter than he's doing a compilation of tracks he's performing on the new tour. This recent tour is just phase one of a project he's working on

I mean.. this makes the fact PFT was number 1, the video was just lyrics pretty much, and i never EVER hear it on rotation. Yet hear Freedom 90 a lot....

Well hey either way, George had a number 1 hit with no intentions of making a video, and not caring how well it sold.... so that was a win for him razz

Devil's advocate, if he had been in the video with a different setting, maybe (just maybe) he would've reached number one with it lol but I think he loved the model concept (as did I) because he topped it with Too Funky, which if I'm not mistaken, also peaked at number 8 on the pop charts in the U.S. in '92 yet the album that was supposed to come out to support it (Listen Without Prejudice Vol. II) never came out.

I also think what hurt George's career in the U.S. was not only the lag in releases but the promotion was REAL dismal. He had two top ten hits from Older as stated but why didn't he or DreamWorks work harder to promote the album here? This was before the bathroom "episode", mind you...

Hmmm, true. That is another thing, George seems to just not care about US sales as well. After Faith he mentioned he got tired of promoting in America.

I compare George Michael alot with DURAN DURAN, DD has had HUGE success in america early on, and the uk then it started to fade and the end of the 80's and then it started to fade even in the uk for DD, and i think George is at a point now where he is becoming more known for incidents and best of tours then actually cutting more great music, im not really crazy with the music he has put out lately anyway, i do agree one of the best voices, next to Morten Harket of a-ha, but i feel George needs to not be another Axl Rose but another Elton or Paul McCartney which he could have been

I think somewhere George lost his way. He could've been even greater than he is already...

I don't think he even cares. In "A Different Story" (which all of you GM fans should see as soon as possible), he talked about how when Faith was out, he was hell bent on being the biggest star in the world but felt in the midst of the Faith era, felt he was losing himself. I think he's more at peace now than he was then

Look at where he took the 25Live tour. Brotha went EVERYWHERE lol

Yeah I can imagine he did. That's why I always say he must've lost his way during that period ("Faith") and you're not lying about the 25Live tour. lol He got in people's "good graces" again after that lol I know he's getting rave reviews for his symphony tour too.

Some of those wacky conservative bible bashers probably got onto George for the toilet thing and that was that. UK tabloids thought it was funny. George even poked fun at it in the "outside" single (the urinals LOL).

"Zip me up before you go go". Classic UK headline LOL. Some americans took that shit seriously like they did with Janet's superbowl fiasco.

George's animated video for "shoot the dog" caused abit of controversy in the US too. The song never even had the chance to get off the ground. It was satire, but obviously some americans did not find that video funny. George even defended the clip on CNN LOL.

^ We take shit too literally, I agree. lol

But me personally I thought the "incident" was funny. Then when he told CNN he was gay I was like "color me unsurprised razz " (and I was 14 then so even then I was like "big deal lol" ). And I loved the video to "Outside". Probably his most creative in terms of what he experienced and the fact he had balls to MOCK it was really hilarious especially during that time.

When I saw the clip to "Shoot the Dog", I could see WHY the U.S. wouldn't allow it to air but it's a funny one too. lol

"Shoot the dog" makes the UK look worse then the US LOL. Tony Blair being George Bush's dogsbody LOL.

I was thinking about the Shoot The Dog controversy after watching "George Michael's Millions" on Youtube. It's funny how George was saying things people would later up agreeing with years later lol
