Perfectionists are never satisfied LOL. As the Joe Vogal book states (and most of us already knew), Teddy was not first on board the project. He came in late. Album should of really come out late 1990, early 1991 to take full advantage of the new jack swing sound. But the rnb songs still did well pop chart wise in the US, with the exception of "jam". Also no "give in to me" single in the US and instead "who is it?". In hindsight a mistake maybe?
Iam sure BBboy87 will know when Teddy actually joined the project, but Iam guessing latter half of 1990?
He ditched the tracks produced with Bryan Loren and whatever he did with La Reid and Babyface. That must of crushed their ego LOL, they were HUGE back in 1990, though of course Mike would work with Babyface again for "HIStory" (and fail again as "why" was given to 3T and "one the line" only made it out on limited release and in the film "get on the bus"), but it proves Mike had the opputunity to take his time, and he damn well did LOL.
Another album I feel that came out waaay too late (as opposed to a little bit in the case of "dangerous") was Bobby Browns 1992 album, but thats for another thread LOL.

Personally Iam with Mike on this one, and I don't like them. Mike wrote (or ghost wrote LOL), he didn't like doing them. I can see why. As it's all on a tight schedule, the dancing seems rushed and generally very cheesy. It's an interesting part of his career, but I hate those sort of shows in general and the Jacksons are no different. At least onyl 2 seasons of them were made. I would of hated it if they kept going like Donnie and Marie or something. That can kill careers... | |

Of all albums that were rushed, Dangerous was not one of them
Like people who worked with him said, the minute he was done with Bad, he was already tinkering with songs for Decade or Dangerous. He initially started in early '88 but the ball really didn't get rolling until early '89.
From 1988-1989 and even early '90, he worked with LaFace, Bryan Loren, John Barnes and a couple of others working on songs here and there. He then got Teddy on board (who originally was supposed to work on Bad) in early to mid '90 and reworked songs he had already done (Black Or White, Who Is It, Dangerous, In The Closet, Heal The World) and really got down to business
The LaFace thing is kinda funny. They were in Atlanta, working with Jermaine who had moved from LA to Atlanta to work with them. They get a call from Michael and just like that, up and left That's pretty much what sparked "Word To The Badd" and even after they went to California, worked on several songs (I think Slave To The Rhythm was from the Dangerous sessions or HIStory sessions), NONE of the material made the cut I heard they were really disappointed
Monkey Business was supposed to be the lead single but after the album was re-arranged and reworked songs, MB was scrapped and Black Or White became the lead single
So Dangerous was shaped from 1988-early 1991 whereas Off The Wall took about 8 months, Thriller about 8 months, Bad 2 years and Dangerous 2 and a half "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world." | |

It almost did. They were doing well with the release The Jacksons but with with the exposure from the show, Goin' Places failed. Yeah I read in Jermaines book about "word to the badd", he said something like "they made him do it" or some bullshit. Just admit it Jermaine. Iam sure La and Babyface egged him to do it though, considering the tracks they just did with Michael didn't go down too well.
I would like to hear more tracks with John Barnes. He is a lyricist primarily and is very poppy, but thats what would make the collabs interesting. I love Michaels pop side too and like some other stuff Barnes has done.
U read about David Foster and MJ? Nothing groundbreaking, but just that Mike would do a vocal 10 plus times despite David telling him it was fine the first time LOL. He said it reminded him of Striesand, who would also keep trying over and over again.
So yeah a perfectionist to a tee! Particually true if Foster said it, as he is known for being tough on his acts, yet despite him saying a certain take was fine, Mike would keep going back to do it again LOL.
And shame "lisa, its your birthday" never made "dangerous" LOL. It sure would place that album even more into the early 90's if that was included as a hidden track like it was rumoured to.

It was never meant for Dangerous It was strictly for The Simpsons. Thinking about it, it should've been included on one of their soundtrack albums like the one Do The Bartman was on It was supposed to be on the bonus disc of the 2001 special edition but we know what happened with that

The only song I think was left out was Someone Put Your Hand Out but apparently that was recorded in 1992 but why couldn't they put that in the special edition? Someone Put Your Hand Out would've also been the perfect song to actually END the album. It needed a love ballad or two on it... | |

Adrian Grant heard the song back in 1990 and said it reminded him of The Man. Going by what he said, sounds like it might have been somewhat finished. Men In Black is a registered song. | |

Keep The Faith sounds perfectly fine after Will You Be There and fits the theme perfectly towards the end of the album. I love Can't Let Her Get Away and Heal The World with all my heart, but if one of them were replaced with Someone Put Your Hand Out, I would have loved that. | |

The only change I would've made to Dangerous would be taking out KTF and putting Planet Earth (Earth Song) in its place. Otherwise, it's a perfect album. She Drives Me Wild is a favorite of mine. | |
