The *fans* need to realise that Greatest Hits albums (which Immortal falls into) won't be big sellers again. Likewise, it is the kind of album that when you have seen the show will mean more, thus it is likely to be a big seller AT the events - in a similar way to the Beatles LOVE album is always selling out at the Mirage in Vegas. ^^ I also think for the general public - once they see the show and have the revelation of how the music has been mashed up and treated, THEN they will buy it.
I think over time The Immortal will go on to sell more than This Is It - but us fans shouldn't be expecting it to sell more than a few million during it's touring life. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Massively.
Though I do wonder why the estate just doesn't offer $1m - $2m to take it out of circulation if they (a) are worried it is something MJ obviously didn't want to be made public (b) want to stop potential distribution. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

I'm currently working my way through Joe Vogel's Man In The Music - so far I am enjoying it but wish it had more about how the songs came about and were recorded. For a book that promised to be about the music he does spend a lot of time discussing the music videos with each track. That said, it is nice to be reading a book that explores the artistry of MJ and does so relatively objectively.
What is everyone's views on it? "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

I think that "Michael didn't feel happy about the show and didn't want it to be made public" is a load of BS. The Bucharest show had been aired a year prior around the world. From what I remember when this tape surfaced, The driver was very nice and friendly to Michael so simply as a gift, Michael gave him a COPY of the show, which Michael did for several people he knew (He sent videos of his concerts to friends and associates when he was on tour)
And it's on VHS. I'm sure the estate has the master tapes of the show in their possession along with the other concerts Michael performed. They may not have that tape, but they probably have the tapes that made that tape
Look at how the Brisbane '87 show surfaced. A guy was in a lot and found an in house beta tape by Nocturne Productions with the show on it I'm sure the Estate has that show too in full (with Stevie dueting on Bad) [Edited 11/27/11 23:08pm] "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. I really haven't seen it advertised anywhere. There are 2 other MJ fans at my work, although not like me and they don't regularly get MJ news online. They hadn't even heard about the album until I told them last week.
Even though I love it and think it's better than any other Greatst Hits there's been, neither of them are willing to buy it and just want me to send them a link.

I've seen it advertised on youtube, facebook and nowhere else. People know about the show, but not the CD. I wish it was at least advertised during the American Music Awards.

Michael Jackson Tribute Promoters File For Bankruptcy
The company behind last month's controversial Michael Jackson tribute concert has filed for bankruptcy, reportedly due to massive debts owed to contractors who worked on the show. Global Events LLC, the promoters of the "Michael Forever" concert in Wales, have turned their finances over to U.K.-based accounting firm RSM Tenon, according to the Welsh newspaper Western Mail. Tenon told the paper that they are "currently conducting our initial review of the business," and reports state that Global Events owes "thousands of pounds" to workers, including members of the U.K. broadcasting union Bectu.

isn't there a song with a chorus that says, 'come on, take the money and run'? this was nothing more than a scam. if the rumors are correct, one of the 'partners' was latoya jackson. this is just sad. i feel more and more sorry for mj with each passing day.

For the past 6 months I've been working on a book about the 101 essential MJ songs - a track by track review of the 101 must hear songs. When I heard Joe Vogel was doing his book I kind of slowed down as I thought there might be similar takes.
My plan, once it is finished, is to release it as a free download. It's more a passion project to get fans talking about the music again. Which, in my opinion, is never a bad thing. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Interesting tidbit - According to Roger Taylor from Queen, Michael was partially responsible for Another One Bites The Dust being a hit. They had recorded the song as an album track and when Michael met them after one of their gigs at The Forum he emplored them to release it as a single. According to Taylor, most of the band didn't think it was a hit, but Michael said it was a smash and convinced them.
The track was released to radio as a test and took off. It shot to number 1 as a single and remains Queens biggest selling single.

IT is a good read - my only gripe (and it's a petty one) is that for all the discussion of music it seems at times to be more a discussion on the accompanying music videos.
But I got to give him props for seeing it through - especially as he started it in 2005 - not the friendliest of times to be writing a PRO-MJ book.
I am hoping to have my book finished by the new year - but reality might set in and make it a lat Jan release. "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"
