Janet Jackson reschedules shows to be with family NEW YORK – Janet Jackson is rescheduling part of her Australian tour so she can support her family during the trial of the doctor accused of involuntary manslaughter in her brother Michael's death. Dr. Conrad Murray is on trial in Los Angeles. He is accused of being negligent in his care of the superstar, who died in 2009 of an overdose of the anesthetic propofol at age 50.
The prosecution is wrapping up its case this week, and the defense is about to present its case. The Jacksons have been a regular presence at the trial; Janet Jackson was there at the beginning.
"When I planned these shows, the schedule in California was completely different," she said in a Sunday statement to The Associated Press. "After talking with my family last night, I decided we must be together right now. .... This saddens me in so many ways."
The shows for her "Number Ones" tour were scheduled in Melbourne on Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday; to make them up, she'll perform one night, on Nov. 3, in Rod Laver Arena. She thanked her fans for their support and understanding.
Jackson also has the support of her promoter.
"It is important that Janet is with her family at this critical point in the hearing. While Janet and our company apologize for any inconvenience for the reschedule of the Melbourne shows, we thank Janet for the great and successful concerts in Perth and Adelaide and eagerly await her return. ... Our thoughts and prayers are with Janet and the entire Jackson family," promoter Paul Dainty said.

I'm sorry for you, but I totally understand Janet being asked to be there for her family. I hope you got decent seats. I saw her twice this year and it was a great show. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

well being in AUS we never see her live, so when the oppurtunity came up to see her more than once in a small venue was amazing.
now its once, from a distance
well at least its once, and i cant fault her for wanting to be at the trial. RIP 1958-2016 Prince RIP 1947-2016 David Bowie

I'm bummed.
On the one hand I understand her need to be with family (or pressure to be) yet now due to the rescheduling I will miss out on the tour.
I had 3rd Row for Wednsday Night and 2nd Row VIP Package for Thursday night. Now instead of seeing her twice I don't get to see her at all.
For those still going the venue change means an intimate 1,700 seat theatre show now moves to an arena with 15,000 seating capacity. The same arena's that I saw her janet and Velvet Rope tours at.
Maybe that night the show should be retitled "Not So Up Close and 15,000 seats ain't that Intimate" tour.
As it turns out the night of the rescheduled show I will now be in Vancouver watching the MJ Immortal show - swapping one legendary Jackson for another.
I doubt Janet will come back to Australia so chances of seeing another tour from her are pretty much gone.

Sorry to hear about your loss swa, I think she is doing other Australian dates though that won't be affected right? How about trying to go for those?

Unfortunately I am overseas from 29th October until the 20th November - so miss all othe available dates - thus me flying to Melbourne to see the shows.
Oh well - that's the way show goes "I'm not human I'm a dove, I'm ur conscience. I am love"

Yeah, guess it wasn't meant to be this time either You're so lucky you saw the janet. tour though, I've been to all of her tours except Rhythm Nation and janet. I wasn't a fan yet when it came here twice.
You'll enjoy the MJ Cirque Du Soilel show, I already went for it and it's great!

^^ Funny thing is my girl said teasingly to me "Michael really doesn't like you - you had tickets for 2 shows to This Is It in London and he died. Now his death case has caused Janet to cancel 2 shows you were going to."
I guess it just wan't meant to be.
I understand her wanting to support her family - so can't begrudge her of that, just feel the way that have chosen to resolve it isn't the best approach and moves an intimate show into a arena.
And I am looking forward to the Cirque shows.

She always says family first. She will be back to dazzle Australia as soon as this mess involving Dr. Murray is over. "Get up off that grey line"

@ swa feel sorry for you!
PM me if you want me to grab you some merchandise or something at least...
Also im pretty annoyed at the price drops since the shows were announced.
I paid $299 for 4x tickets, those same seats are now $150. I get a penalty for being first and being a "hardcore" fan.
Im tempted to get a full refund and re-buy the same seats for $150 once they go on sale now... RIP 1958-2016 Prince RIP 1947-2016 David Bowie

I'm sorry for the Australians. I'm sure she'll make it up somehow. Well other than the reschedule and all. At least she didn't completely cancel it like someone who "I am a fan of and am a member of his unofficial website"

You're not alone, Michael really didn't like me and hasn't come here since victory. Made his escape before I could head to my london shows....it is what it is

It's going to be a bit strange...even with the three shows combined, it won't even fill up half the stadium.
People have been exceptionally harsh on some of the social media sites though.
I really understand people's angst, but seriously, in any other situation, if an artist had to reschedule on the basis that the trial concerning the death of their brother and those potentially responsible was coming to a close, then most people would think it completely understandable. Not really sure why it's different because it's Janet and Michael.
That said, I'm not a hard core fan - I did buy my ticket for $150 *hides from xperience 319* - so I'm not hurting the way a number of others are.
I just wish some folk on facebook and the like could be a tad more respectful under the circumstances.
Sorry to hear about your situation Swa - that's particularly unfortunate But I hope you enjoy the MJ Immortal show all the same!

I think the show on 9-1-11 at the Greek in LA should have been the final show. I'm sure she was aware of the trial taking place during her schedule. She should have went on hiatus and resumed the tour once the trial was over instead of cancelling and pushing shows back.
I feel a Rock Witchu Tour coming on...

I'm beginning to believe it. That's a fucking mess. She knew there was a trial. She should've waited until 2012 to tour Australia and all those places. Does Janet even have a manager anymore??? [Edited 10/28/11 0:41am]

I rang Ticketek today, but they have no information. He checked my details, credit card no, etc... and there was nothing in their system (presumably because I booked through the Arts Centre).
He said to wait until Tuesday and then ring Rod Laver.
There are tickets on sale now on Ticketek's website for the rest of the stadium, so presumably the existing tickets have been allocated. Although, given that you can get a refund up until Mon or even Tues (I think), perhaps they're still juggling. Definite mess.
I have a friend who's just got back from overseas and was unaware of the tour. She wants to get a ticket, but I wanted to find out where I was before she did - if I have a better seat (which, in theory, I should), I was going to give her mine and buy another one for myself (she is to Janet & Michael what I am to Prince). But until we have some more info we're flying blind
It doesn't look like a more intimate setup in the stadium though (as has been suggested by some fb fans) - the layout I saw online was exactly the same as for any other concert.
I understand that she didn't want to put her life and career on hold for the trial, and the statement did say that the timetable had changed since she booked the tour, but yes, surely there should be people working for her that could have advised her better on this one...

I don't know what's going on with her as far as management but I do believe that shows should've been scheduled AFTER the trial.

Yeah! Of course she does and yeah she should have! I mean it's understandable that she wants to be with her family. It's also understandable that she is not in the mood to perform, while this is going on... but, geez, what where they thinking?
It is known since the beginning of this year that the trial is coming up. It is known at least since june or july that the trial would be in September/October. Also it is known that no one really knew how long it would take and that delays are possible. They scheduled 13 days between the last US and the first overseas show... anybody knows that a trial won't be over in 2 weeks... again, what were they thinking?
There was no rush for this tour... she just could have gone out one or two months later. I really wonder what will happen now, since it will definitely take at least until the middle of the week until a verdict comes in.
And the irony is, that her family is off to attend ill-timed tribute concerts, which had even less business to be at that time, cirque de suleil shows and again they are scheduled to attend a DVD screening in London next week of the David Gest MJ movie (I wonder if they still will show up) and Janet is cancelling her shows to be in L.A.! I agree! I don't get that at all. I don't even think Janet knew how the trial was running. I bet by the time she does show up for the trial, the jury would be about ready to render their verdict and her rescheduling would be all for naught.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
^^She was at the trial this week, from tuesday on! But she won't be able to stick around for the verdict, let alone attend closing arguments next week, unless she also cancels the make up date and the Gold coast date.
