Great news! I am a fan, however he is getting to be quite pathetic especially for someone of his accomplishments, stature and age. HE's an embarasment of the music industry and to those of us who had faith in his eventual return to prominence. To those of you that say coke/crack is a hellofadrug only excuses that fact that it a WEAK personality that allows it to control you. What a waste!!

Have you ever kicked drugs?

ThreadBear, I'm not the subject on this forum. With Sly Stone "what it is, is what it is".

I still say drugs can trigger one's brain. Not that anyone's weak under the drug but something happens to the brain that makes it immune to a drug. Not saying that's true about Sly since we don't know how bad his situation really is but it's a possibility. I wouldn't say he's "weak".

yeah, drugs are almost not a choice once you get hooked. They re-wire your brain to where you really feel you need them. Your logic twisted to where you see them as the number one priority and it actually makes sense to you that way.
It's incredibly sad, but they are clearly powerful when you see Sly could be living the life, playing incredible music to large audiences, making tons of money, and he chose to do drugs by himself instead. My Legacy

Welcome to the forum. I'm asking you a question.
You're calling a drug-addicted person who has entered rehab a weak individual. I was just wondering whether your place of judgment was personal experience or conviction.
I've seen loved ones overcome drug addiction. It hasn't involved, for the ones lucky enough to succeed, a quick battle and moving on with their lives. It's involved attempts, failures, gut-wrenching determination and eventual success.
I imagine it can be tougher for celebrities who experience a great deal of enabling and, perhaps, less confrontation than most people. Most people hate change, let alone change that involves confronting their limits.
So, anytime I see someone seeking help, they get my approval. [Edited 10/22/11 11:23am]

I wish Sly the best in his bid for recovery. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

Hello friends, let me start by saying that I was probably misunderstood by my last comments concerning Sly Stone. If I'm not mistaken, this is his EIGHTH time in "rehab"!? He reminds me of Elizabeth Taylor with her eight husbands in that eventually you will have to look yourself in the mirror and realize that maybe it's all about you, and getting another husband won't fix your "problem" . Coke or crack aint heroin, in that it doesn't cause a physical addiction. There are a lot of enablers around us if we need them but its because we have "been there and done that" and because of that we usually have enough common sense to realize, that in the long run, you'll be quite a stupid ass to do it again and again with the same result. What a pity considering his influence, talent and accomplishments, that he's again slipped to another "low" in his life. As for George Clinton, he aint got sh.. to do with SLY's weakness. A strong man can always say know--IF HE REALLY WANTS TO! Anyway, as an admitted fan of his, I still wish him well in his quest for sobriety.

I have to respectfully disagree with that. (Powder) cocaine and crack cocaine is just as bad as heroin in that they're all chemical. I can't compare Sly's situation with Liz's at all.

Timmy84, I understand your point, however, the fact is self evident in that people get married over and over again and unfortunatly peoply get back on drugs over and over again no matter what we do to convince them otherwise. Thats life I guess. Heroin is a physical addition wereas crack is a MENTAL addition that in the long run may cause physical degradation due to the need to have more and more. Its all mind over matter and some of us don't have enough "mind" to overcome.
