It's good to know that the album format yet hasn't died, 11m is a great result these days. Congratulations Adele!

I'm still not convinced she isn't a flash in the pan. Right now it's the "thing" to be into Adele. A lot of people are probably buying her album simply because she's hot, and everyone else is. Let's see if she is still garnering this much attention three albums down the road once the 'new' has worn off.

She ain't exactly new. She's been out since 2008. She won a 2009 Grammy for Best New Artist mainly based off "Chasing Pavements". The 19 album was actually real good. So I don't know about "flash in the pan":

I don’t like 19.. For some reason.. 21 is flawless I’m very happy for her but I do agree people can be fickle and move right on to someone else. I hope she last a good while though.

That's huge for 2011, how much has the second and third best seller of the year sold? I also wonder if people bought it cause of Amy Winehouse bringing attention to female brit pop again, though I know they are different styles.

The second best-seller is around 7 million right now...

Please. If this were 1991, her album would be at over 20 million sold. I remember when 11 million was a more modest number. Now it's considered a blockbuster.

Metallica - Metallica
U2 - Achtung Baby
Queen - Greatest Hits II
Nirvana - Nevermind
Pearl Jam - Ten
Michael Jackson - Dangerous

All these albums were released in 1991 and sold more than 20 million copies each.
So 11 million for 1991 - absolutely not impressed. With such sales, it would not have even entered the top 20 best-selling albums of 1991.
But for 2011, such sales - this is a runaway success smile

With adele, besides the fact she can sing. Her album is very personal, and well written. And I think the personal aspect makes people want to hear the entire album. Unlike katy perry having tons of hits but barely going double platinum. Keshas last album didn't do very well either, I'm suprised with as many hits gaga has from born this way, it hasn't sold more. So go adele! I think she will continue to have much more great albums.

As much as I wanna comfort people in the back for "hard times", I'm tired of hearing about it. yawn lol

Anyways, this is about Adele doing 11 mill, right? Let's appreciate that at least...lol

I love 21

but I just hope she stops writing heartbroken lyrics for her next album...

otherwise she will quickly become a parody of herself, at least for me...of course mainstream people love heartache lyrics, so..., lol
