Here's my opinion

The Chronic: CLASSIC hip-hop record of the early-90s that introduced, for better or worse, slower & more melodic tempos for the rap community.

Doggystyle: CRAP album that was a huge hit back in the day just because it was a Snopp Dogg album, then a superstar thanks to the Chronic...

I always thought the albums complemented each other. Why do you think Doggystyle, and not The Chronic, is Crap?

lack of strong singles, lack of strong album tracks

the radio still plays Dre.Day, Let Me Ride and of course G-THang

but hardly anything from Doggystyle

am I correct?

^ Dre rushed Doggystyle a bit but the first two singles hit such a nerve that that's why it sold so much. Everybody was on a West Coast ride then...

well, perhaps Doggy is not CRAP, but still a dissappointing "follow-up" to Chronic, as you've said it sold well because that sound was hot as hell back in the day...

Yeah that was probably the point anyway... since Snoop was such an integral part to The Chronic. And that one you could tell Dre put his blood, sweat and tears on it. Doggystyle was mainly a money grab but it's definitely a top album.

Gin and Juice is sooooooooo disappointing, it sounds like a carbon (and slower) copy of Dre-Day...

Could be lol I like the Chronic better, but I do recall Doggystyle being massive here. Gin and juice, What's my name, were massive hits.

Many tunes remind me of each other. Same style, Doggystyle sounds typically Dre.

As to current radio: the few times I listen I only hear beyonce, gaga, kanye.... you get the picture.

Probably my favorite track from The Chronic, and there's nary a Doctor or Doggy in sight!

Death Row's B-Team FTW!

I liked both albums, but I felt like Doggystyle was a bit watered down compared to The Chronic

The Cronic was filled with classics, even the ones that did not make MTV. The whole thing had amazing sound and a beautiful musical quality, plus the variety of voices kept it from feeling stagnant.

This always made me laugh

Because Easy E was the target of the video, it seemed like Snoop's references to "play with my bone would you Timmy..." got lost in the shuffle

Tim Dog seems to have lost this battle though, considering Snoop and Dre are superstars now

That was one of the tightest songs on the album for sure.

yeah, but the ending of the uncensored version is explicit enough: "Eazy E can eat a big fat dick, Tim Dog can eat a big fat dick, Luke can eat a.." Who was Luke anyway?

Isn't it Luther Campbell?

Yep. Luke did some diss track to, I guess, gangsta rappers so Dre & Snoop responded. The beef was squashed long time ago though.

Gin and Juice? Tha Shiznit? Murder Was The Case? Who Am I (What's My Name)? For All My Niggaz and Bitches? Ain't No Fun (If The Homies Can't Have None)? Doggy Dogg World? All strong songs in my opinion.

I'm in love with Ain't No Fun. Both albums are definitely classics, though I probably lean more towards Doggystyle than The Chronic.

I'm indecisive. On some days I'll probably listen to The Chronic but if I need to chill out, Doggystyle. Personally I'm with you though.

An album that gets no love anymore, but was the shit when it came out was Tha Dogg Pound's debut!

It's kinda underrated in the Death Row cannon. Everyone mentions The Chronic, Doggystyle, All Eyez on Me, Makaveli. All deserved, but have you heard Dogg Food lately?
