Get your Chronic and come do it with me Doggystyle!
Give it up for two of the best rap albums ever. Especially the one that introduced the G-Funk era.
Mad respect.

I was never a fan of hip hop, even though it became big when I grew up here in the Netherlands (90s). These two albums, however, I loved. If I am correct, there is one track on doggystyle with some guy yelling (rasta style) Blam Blam, Blam to them all.... : I forgot the name, but I loved that track. I faintly recall all this music. I also loved some track or album by eazy E, something with a sniper. ..

This thread makes me feel old......happy days indeed and both great albums.

Same here, I think the majority of hip hop sucks donkey cock, but back in the day we used to grow the green and sit and pump these all the time.

Yes, my friends who bought all this moved on to more serious stuff, KRS one, De la soul, tribe called quest, early BIG albums, and a whole lot more I cant recall. Though some of it was nice, I was dissapointed. I liked this hardcore west coast rap with synths. PUMP PUMP

I think why a lot of people love the albums were because it had funk influences (and didn't hide it) and was way more accessible than some East Coast hip-hop records at the time. That's the credit I do give Dre is he made gangsta rap a lexicon of pop music at the time.

I think you nailed it Timmy.

Yes. For me and many of my friends the first encounter with George Clinton was his silly performance in the california love clip, with 2 pac (a song later than mentioned albums. I did not like it that much). I was a fan of Prince, but did not know he worked with him. Only later did we discover Clinton's own work

I knew who Clinton was prior to his appearance in "California Love" (I actually didn't know it was him until he took his glasses off after discovering his "hoes" were taken out by Pac and Dre ) but I can see how that re-introduced people to Clinton. Though EPMD were the first to sample Clinton, Dre, Cube and 'em were really responsible for RE-introducing Clinton, Roger and a lot of the '70s and '80s funk legends.

This always made me laugh

That had me laughing when I first watch it at 9. At the time I didn't quite understand the dissing until much later. But it's still a classic regardless. RIP to Eazy E though.

Yes, the "will rap for food' is an easy but effective joke.
If I recall correctly, this (or the album this track is one), was Eazy E's response:

Especially since he's talking about how much sex he'll have with him.

It was Real Muthaphukkin G's.

Yeah that was the one. Wished Dre and Eazy had made up before Eazy got sick though.

When I was 10 or 11 years old, I thought this was the greatest, funniest thing ever!

They did. They went to the hospital and made up.

Ah ok, thanks, its a blur...
I always thought these battles were part of the trade, at least for these old timers. But I am really not knowledgeable on the subject.

I still do | |
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Oh? The way Dre told it, Eazy was already gone but I guess in a way Eazy WAS probably listening and he probably already made his peace with Dre even before Dre made his appearance.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Yeah. I'm reading more and Dre also said that they got together and laughed about the beef before the found out he was sick, so I dunno. They probably were fine for a while before Eazy got sick.

I see. So they squashed it then. I wonder if Cube and Eazy made up before Eazy died too. [Edited 10/20/11 16:56pm]

I hope so. I never did get why rappers beefed in the first place.

Yeah, on Cube's Behind the Music, he said they met in New York and talked for a while. He said that was the last time he saw him, 'cause he didn't see him in the hospital and he didn't go to his funeral.
He wanted his last image of Eazy to be of him walking away in NYC. Not him in a hospital bed hooked up to machines or laying dead in a coffin. JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

I read somewhere that Dre, Eazy, Cube AND Ren were talking of doing a reunited record on one of their records, possibly Eazy's or Cube's but Eazy got sick before that could come true.

Here's my opinion
The Chronic: CLASSIC hip-hop record of the early-90s that introduced, for better or worse, slower & more melodic tempos for the rap community.
Doggystyle: CRAP album that was a huge hit back in the day just because it was a Snopp Dogg album, then a superstar thanks to the Chronic...
