Madonna - Take A Bow: huge single yet neglected

So i was just watching the video, then looked up its stats on wikipedia:

"Take a Bow" was a huge success for Madonna on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It topped the chart for seven weeks and is her longest-running number-one single on this chart.

wtf? while its not a big faveourite of mine, it clearly has a huge fanbase....and longest running 1 single?? so bigger than vogue and like a virgin etc.?

any official word on why she isnt including this in her tours at all?

interestingly,Madonna was planning a tour for Bedtime Stories in 1995,but she cancelled it to focus on Evita.I'm sure that she would have definitely performed "Take A Bow" on this tour.

1995 tour? girlie show wrapped up at the end of 93...thats kinda soon...but then again she didnt hit the US with many dates on that tour so perhaps that was her goal.

woulda done well off bedtime stories in the US imo.

It's great that she cancelled it and waited until she had done a few more albums. In 2001,after ROL and Music, the anticipation and excitement was tremendous. It was a wise move on her part.

As a big Madonna fan I could care less if she played it live. It may have been a huge hit for her but she has so many much stronger ballads that I'd much rather see live. If she pulled out Rain, This Used to Be My Playground or Promise to Try that would get me really excited.

Strange. It was massive in America, yet in the UK where she nearly always goes top 10, it reached number 15 and was kinda considered a flop (by her usual standards)

Bedtime Story flopped stateside, but reached number 5 in the UK.

Interesting.

It didn't just stay at number one, it took FOREVER to get there. I think it stalled out at #5 for a few weeks before moving further up the chart. That it stayed at #1 for 7 weeks after its already relatively lengthy chart run prior to that is a testament to how ubiquitous this song was in the first half of '95.

^ I find that interesting as well. I would think "Take a Bow" would automatically reach No. 1 in the UK considering how big her records are over there...

It was a slow burner, as they would say...

it was an r&b ballad. something that British audiences don't really get behind.

She should have played it at least in the 2001 Drowned World Tour, and a 2008 remix for the S&S Tour could have worked as well...with a different tempo...

it's one of THE biggest singles of the mid-90s, I mean, c'mon, when I think about mid-90s Madonna Take a Bow and Evita inmediately come to my mind...

Madonna's best song!

Classic melody and great chord changes.

Love this song. Bedtime Stories Is such an underrated album. One of my favorites of hers next to Ray Of Light, Like A Virgin, Music, and Erotica. Great album and great song. Closes up the album perfectly

I remember watching that at the time and thinking her vocals were a little off. Weren't her and Face on some kind of podiums on opposite sides of the stage? I'm remembering a her in a kimono or something and her and Face turning toward each other at the end and bowing.

I was looking for the AMA performance of Take A Bow and found this one I'd never seen before. It seems like such an oddly conventional, old-Hollywood style of performance. Maybe it's her outfit.

And her Italian at the end is kinda cute.
