I've had quite a few of these. Who would they be for you? And how did the transformation take place? What finally won you over? Here are a few examples.

Bjork - When 'Human Behaviour' came out I just couldn't stand it. Her voice was too foreign and freaky for me to digest. But then 'Big Time Sensuality' came out and I was hooked. I realized that I knew 'Hit' too from when she was with the Sugarcubes. And I've been a die-hard ever since. Now she competes with Prince as my favorite.

PJ Harvey - My friend tried to get me into her. And it just wasn't working. 'Rid Of Me' was too harsh and abrasive for me at the time. Which was weird cuz I was listening to 'In Utero' at the time. But then 'To Bring You My Love' came out and I fell in love. I enjoy all of her work now. Funny thing is, 'Rid Of Me' is probably my favorite album by her now.

Pink - Her Destiny's Child wannabe songs on the first album drove me crazy. I literally got mad just talking about her. But her 2nd album won me over in a big way. There's not a bad song on there. She's much more interesting and captivating now.

Janes Addiction - Had their first live album and thought what the fuck is this mess and hated it. Then someone borrowed me Nothings Shocking and i was like..WTF this is incredible!

Rancid - Hated them. Thought they were a really lousy clone of The Clash and typical revivalist punk shit. Then i heard their other albums and realised they weren't fakes and the album i had "..And Out Come The Wolves" was atypical of all their other output. Im still really fond of them.

No Doubt... i couldn't understand what or who they were & then i heard Spider Web, i think it was & now i'm gonna start lookin' 4 some of they're CDs & what not...

Gwens voice still grates after a while but they're so imaginative and VERY good songwriters, i don't think they get the props they deserve and i think the music press have a problem of pigeonholing them which works against them. I know thats definitely the case in the UK where they seem to get no promotion at all and still manage to sell records but not half as many as they should.

hated both of 'em back in the day but now are two of my favorite artists.

U2 - they were so pompous at first it was a total turn-off.
Of course they are still pompous but it took me until Achtung Baby to stop thinking of them as assholes & listen to the music.

I wouldn't say hated ... but I couldn't understand the musical value in Van Morrison when I first heard him (around 1978). But now I love listening to some of his music.

I wouldn't say "hated" just not intersted in thats all.

Prince-My sistah used 2 have vinyls/CDs/Tapes/Videos from the brutha,,she was a hardcore fanatic but I thought he's just another MJ wannabe. I didn't understood him at all or what he was talking about untill I saw the "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World" video which is 2 years ago. After that I bought his lastest LP which is RAVE, I liked it and I bought "The Hits/B-Sides" after that and from that moment up till now, I'm collecting his things. I"m now banging my head against the wall becoz my sistah moved 2 Newark NJ and took all of her stuff with her .

Prince. If a song of his came on the radio I'd shut it off.

Thelonious Monk because at first I was throw off by His Take at playing the Piano but after I really listened&allowed myself to hear where He was going with it I was blown away.

I used to hate it when my mom played stuff by Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, Al Green, Jackie Wilson, and those type of soul legends. I was a kid. At the time, the music just didn't move me. In my small mind, it just didn't compute.

As an adult, with a little more life experience, I SO get it! And I'm so glad that I do.

the Beatles. i wouldn't say i ever hated them, though. i could appreciate what they'd done for popular music and culture, but it was all a bit ho hum for me until a few years ago. now i love them.

my resistance to David Bowie and Elton John was less, and incidentally, they've spring into the second tier of my top 4 favorite artists, after Prince & Madonna. Beatles are at #5

Prince - I liked 1999 and Let's Go Crazy when they came out, but I HATED When Doves Cry, Purple Rain, Raspberry Beret, and Kiss when they came out.
Then Girls & Boys was OK, and I kind of liked the Sign O' The Times singles, but it was 'I Wish U Heaven' that finally got me to buy a Prince album. After that I had to get them all. I never have got to like 'When Doves Cry' though. Everyone raves about it, but I think it's awful. And 'Purple Rain' isn't much better! But I love virtually everything else.

I actually always resisted Springsteen. I'm a bit of a pop junkie, so I was always a bit miffed that hardcore Springsteen fans hated 'Dancing In The Dark', the song he supposedly "sold out" with. I had his Greatest Hits for ages but last year I picked up 'Nebraska' after several people recommended it to me, and I ended up buying one of his albums almost every week. I haven't got them all yet, but funnily enough 'Born In The USA' was one of the later purchases.

Prince - when I first saw the video for little red corvette, I said this sux but the when I listened (no videos involved) I loved it.

Emancipation was another I couldn't get into until I heard it done live and now its one of my favs

I thought she was a snob and stuff. Then I watched the

VH1 Driven special on her, and I realized what an

incredible singer she is and the hardships she overcame to

get to where she is today.
