The People Vs. Conrad Murray/MJ Trial. Week 6 Cross Examination and Final Arguments. As we enter week 4 of the trial the prosecution with only one witness left will wrap up its portion of the case and the defense will begin its analysis.
Im assuming that the defense is going to depict MJ and his final days not in a very good light to establish reasonable doubt.
I have a feeling that this thread is going to get messy with alot of opinions on what the defense will try to prove. That being said, lets keep this thread on track and about what is going on in the courtroom.

Does anyone know about this article in People Magazine, back in 2009? Supposedly, this same doctor was reprimanded for writing a prescription to his sister Janet. They don't say what the drug was. I am curious. Did he testify, yet?
![]()
Frederick M. Brown/Getty Dr. Allan Metzger, an L.A.-based rheumatologist who also specializes in internal medicine, paid a visit to the singer's home in April, says Metzger's attorney Harland Braun. "Jackson was looking for propofol and Dr. Metzger turned him down and advised him how dangerous it was," Braun tells PEOPLE. "Apparently, Jackson was shopping around for the drug or looking for someone to administer it to him." Jackson, who was a patient of Dr. Metzger's prior to 2003, also asked the doctor about general nutrition and the immunization of his children, Braun says. Braun also confirms that Dr. Metzger was subpoenaed last month by the Los Angeles coroner in search of Jackson's medical records, making Metzger at least the fourth doctor to be have files searched in the apparent manslaughter investigation. Investigators reportedly believe Jackson was given propofol the night before his death by his personal physician, Dr. Conrad Murray. "All my client did was turn down Michael's request for the drug and warn him of the dangers," Braun added. "Dr. Metzger did nothing wrong, and he's now a potential witness who can testify that Jackson was looking for the drug." Dr. Metzger also previously treated another Jackson: Public records show Metzger was reprimanded in 2000 by the California Medical Board for using a fictitious name to write Janet Jackson a prescription. Says Braun, who defended Metzger in that case: "Doctors have a duty to protect their client's privacy. Using false names for prescriptions is the only way to prevent a celebrity from being physically and emotionally harmed by the disclosure of their medical needs." Braun adds that he assumes Dr. Metzger wrote Michael Jackson prescriptions under a pseudonym when he treated the pop star prior to 2003. "It's common practice even though it's illegal," Braun acknowledges, "which many doctors don't even know, because they think more like doctors than lawyers. But there's no protection against pharmacy workers selling private information to the tabloids."

Has there been a change in the trial resuming today? Haven't seen any live coverage today. I'm on the eastcoast but normally the prosecution would have been beating that ass by now

Janet was getting anti depressants and something for drug addiction for Rene under her secret name, and some hepatitis vaccine.

They were late cause they were showing the judge the video the prosecutions is playing now. It shows how propofol is administered in hospital.
Now seeing all this, I can't imagine that the jury would let that "alleged doctor" go away. I' ll never understand what the hell he was doing. I am also not that conspiration supporter etc., but it makes you wonder how a "doctor" could make soooooooooooooo many mistakes. It's almost impossible for it to be by accident. Of course, I don't know his motive, but still...... "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Aw damn....As soon as I check in, Judge reminds them that its one minute until recess. So apparently, they had a video huh? That proper hospital image should be a compelling one in contrast to Michael's bedroom makeshift mess that Dr. Murray put together. Although I didn't see it, I'm sure the comparison is like night and day.

Yeah, the video was shown. But you can watch it on youtube. Someone is uploading all the videos up there. I am sure that it will be there by tomorrow. It's unbelievable when you see it all and how it's done... This doctor also seems bulletproof like Steinberg. He made the video himself just to show it here in the court. He explained that he provided his expertice for free because it is putting a very bad light on doctors and he's not having it. If I were Murray, I wouldn¨t let Flanagan ask him a single question. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I really wonder what the hell is the defence gonna come up with. I have no idea. That's gonna be like watching a science fiction. There's just no way they can get around any of it. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

Murray should go to jail either for pretending to be a doctor OR for being a murderer if he actually IS a doctor and knows how things should be done. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

At first I though they'd go the smear campaign route but then they decided not to go with the "Michael injected himself" angle. I don't know either.... should be interesting.
Keep in mind though, no matter what their approach is, the prosecution will have the liberty of poking holes through whatever theory they come up with. We'll see soon enough....

I wanted to see did this doctor testify? That was my main focus.

especially after the video demo which shows how difficult it would have been for mj to do that, at least with a proper iv hook-up. i still think they're going to go the smear campaign route, though.
i understand former patients will tesitfy as character witnesses. i learned in my class on criminal and civil evidence, when the def opens the door to 'character', the pros can walk right through it, too. they can put on rebuttal witnesses who can have negative things to say about murray's character.
at a minimum, i don't understand how having former patients attest to murray's competence is going to help him as it will only underscore how uncaring and negligent his care of mj was, and the jury will wonder why he failed mj so completely when he clearly is a competent doctor.
i don't know what to think. the litany of 'mistakes' with mj don't appear to be 'accidental' when you know that murray is a surgeon who has likely seen his own operating team go through the same precautionary procedures that were on the video this morning.

I freaking wanna kill him when I hear that all it might have taken to save MJ's life was to lift his chin and blow air into him through a bag that lay on the floor. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

The doctor has just highlighted that Mike was not warned not to eat or drink anything 8 hours before having propofol which has put him to a much greater risk than the average patient especially since there was no equipment. You can bet that one of the question that Flanagan is gonna ask is how do you know that all the propofol he ordered was intended for MJ.
BTW this witness is great. [Edited 10/19/11 14:03pm] "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. Dr Shafer is like the nutty professior of Anaesthesia the top expert in the world and he's basically saying everything Murray did wasn't right everything he did was wrong. It's will be very interesting to see how Flanagan is going to cross examing Dr Shafer, I wouldn't want to be Flanagan right now FUNKNROLL!

it appears that he wasn't a surgeon, but he clearly had some rudimentary knowledge of sedation. that makes it even worse, b/c he knew he was untrained and qualified.

He just said that all he could have done was just to turn of the propofol. Normally you cannot do that, cause normally people are being operated on, but with Mike that's all it took. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. You're not watching Timmy? I think this guy is even better than Steinberg. He's not as charming, but his testimony is 100% bulletproof, at least for me. He's REALLY good. You might wanna watch. I just can't imagine Murray walking away. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. Knowing me, I'll probably see it on YouTube.

Don't forget that this is only true assuming that Murray left him alone for two minutes only! Which most likely wasn't the case!

it doesn't seem the prosecution will rest today and this point depending on who their last witness is, it might last until friday man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81

I thought he was an Interventional cardiologist. No cutting with this procedure. They start a large IV in the artery in the leg and work through the IV line. Is there any surprise that MJ had an IV in his groin? "Remember, one man's filler is another man's killer" -- Haystack
