Let's Talk About Beyonce, Keri, Ciara, and Aaliyah

Just a random discussion about these ladies who've had a pretty strong influence on R&B music and pop culture whether earned or not and for however a brief moment in time.

First off, I have a question about Beyonce and Aaliyah. Do you think Bey inherited Aaliyah's throne? Consider that Aaliyah was very popular before and at the time of her death. She was romantically linked with JayZ and she was making a name for herself in film. It seems Bey got what Aaliyah had and was working towards. (lets not bring up Damon Dash please)

Do you think Keri Hilson is a strong song writer or singer? A trend setter? Would she be anywhere without Polow Da Don?

Speaking of Polow, I think he shafted Ciara because he couldn't shaft her if ya know what I mean. Ciara and Keri are on the same level as talent goes. How low that level is, well you all can discuss lol

Speaking of Ciara....is she really done? Album sales have been so poor and it seems all she is doing lately is hanging out in LA being photographed as she leaves the gym. confused

Alright lets talk.

Keri's voice annoys me at times but if she really writes her own material then I have to give her some credit.

Aaliyah FTW!!!

Ciara....two-bit talent with skinny legs. There. lol

No idea who Keri is...I think that speaks for itself.

Beyonce is a good singer...but her material lately is crap with the exceptiong of a song or two.

I keep hearing people say that all the time (Mainly Aaliyah fans) and it just doesn't make any sense. Beyonce and her Father have been working hard on making Beyonce a star since she was a child. She's been trying to get into the music industry since she was a kid in 90's. Lets not forget that Destiny's Child were pretty popular even while Aaliyah was alive.

Beyonce always stood out in when she was in "Destiny's Child". People were buzzing about Beyonce since the late 90's/early 00's before Aaliyah died.

Beyonce was gonna be big no matter what. No one could have stopped that and that includes Aaliyah.

I lreally ike Aaliyah and own all her albums, but I don't believe Aaliyah would have ever gotten as big as Beyonce. Her music was pretty good and continuing to get better as she got older, but lets be honest, Beyonce is a better talent and a much better performer than Aaliyah ever was.

Beyonce was gonna be a star no matter what.

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

Aaliyah by far. She had jazz personality, G mentality, beats of Soul Train lol but seriously Aaliyah is really the only one in that list.

As for Beyonce, she was gonna be a superstar regardless of what was going on with Aaliyah.

I have never heard an even close to listenable song performed by Keri...

Or Ciara for that matter

Love me some Bey and Aaliyah, but I think they are on really different planets besides being black female artists.

Real true. I just can't GET into Keri. She's cute and all but she just doesn't do it for me at all. Ciara would've been alright had she stuck with Missy (then again Missy got sick when Ciara's career started to go in limbo confused).

Do you people ever get tired of talking about Beyonce? Like seriously....

Ciara- talented dancer but thats pretty much it not a fan though

Aaliyah- sweet girl and I liked some of her music not ground breaking but it was good for what it was.

Keri- ahhhh I shake my ass in the club to her music thats about it LOL not a fan

Beyonce- I dont know what is the big deal about this girl.. I never did I was 11 when she came out and now at 19 still dont get her hoopla. Yes she can sing but her singing isnt anything special when she isnt screaming and oversinging which she does alot. Her music sucks. While she does have stage presence, I find alot of her performances to be to overhype and just okay or good and not spetacular. I have never been BLOWN away by any of her performances. Maybe because I grew up looking at real natural entertainers like Michael Jackson, Janet, James Brown, Tina etc...not a fan

1. Aaliyah didn't have a throne. Beyonce was already the bigger name in DC. Monica and Brandy had more success than Aaliyah did.

2. Aaliyah never messed with Jay. I wish people would stop trying to make this happen. They were close to each other because of Aaliyah & Dame. That's it.

3. Keri is neither a strong writer or singer. She is not a trend-setter (lmao) and no probably not, Polow helped her a great deal.

4. People can talk shit about Ciara's vocals all they want but I want someone to try to come for her when it comes to her dancing. At least she has that aspect against Keri so it could thus be said that CiCi is the bigger talent. Keri isn't a beast in anything.

5. Yes, Ciara is done.

I loved Aaliyah and her music. I cried when she died, but I think she would be in the same irrelevent boat with the two other 90s black divas (Brandy and Monica).

Matthew Knowles would be the same snake if Aaliyah lived, and was determined to make his daughter a superstar. Aaliyah wouldn't have gotten in his way.

I don't think Keri Hilson is any of the above. I don't agree that she and Ciara are on the same level as far as talent. Ciara can dance her ass off. Keri can't. I believe Ciara can get her career back on track. I don't know if she will tho. If Chris Brown's career can be resurrected, so can Ciara's. shrug

It says alot that Aaliyah passed away 10 years ago and she still has a ton of fans, her music still plays and she seems to be influential EVEN with the small amount of material she released. I really loved A for her personality because she seemed like a sincere sweet heart.

Beyonce for me! Couldn't care less how many albums she sells and how "disappointing" her new album has been commercially...Love her new album, love her voice, love how much energy she brings to live shows...She just seems genuinely happy doing what she does best cool

Ciara's probably the best technical dancer of all. I love watching her dance even though I only know like 4 songs of hers...And isn't Keri Hilton the one who came up with the song "Don't hate me 'cause I'm beautiful"?? If so thanks Keri that song is brilliant That is sooo my song batting eyes lol

I dont think Beyonce inherited Aaliyah's throne at all. She just happened to fill a void that was left open by Aaliyah's death and Lauryn Hill fading from the spotlight. The status that Beyonce has now no way Aaliyah was at that level. Before her death Aaliyah was just crossing over due to the film (Romeo Must Die) and her pop single "Try Again'. Aaliyah may have had a loyal fanbase in the urban community despite the buzz she wasnt a mainstream pop star yet. If Aaliyah was still alive would Beyonce be where she is today? The answer yes. You look at your competition and step up your game. No doubt Aaliyah and Beyonce would've been rivals.

Keri Hilson not entertaining to me at all. She shouldve just stayed behind the scenes.

Ciara Im actually rooting for her I want her to make a comeback but she got to have a good team behind her. I hate that p-poppin club dance moves. Give it a rest.

With the exception of Aaliyah, aren't the other singers, pop singers? Their so-called music irritates me to death and would be a great interrogation technique in some instances smile

Totally agree MJS---this is the most overrated chick on the planet. She screams and doesn't sing and paints herself to resemble a drag queen. I think her father as manager deliberately used the deeply rooted colorism prejudice within the black community to make sure that Beyonce was the stand out. Tell the truth people---if there would have been a group of all women who weren't dark skinned, who would have been the standout? They deliberately cast her with darker singers and other actresses to try to make it look like she was the "natural stand out" when in fact they were using colorism to manufacture her overblown image in the first place. I remember back in the day when Jodeci was big, all the girls thought Dalvin and Devante (the lighter skin guys) were better looking and KC and Jojo were "ugly" because they were "too dark"....The pancake makeup and ridiculous lighting used in Dreamgirls exaggerated Beyonce's features to appear more white for a reason....but joke's on her because J-Hud got her much deserved Oscar for the performance!
