My least favorite 80's Stevie album, love this track though! Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Eeeeek, so corny. And MJ is so weak vocally compared to Stevie, LAWD he is one of the most overrated singers.

I think Michael is stronger than Stevie vocallу in this song, so perhaps it is subjective. 2.26-2.38 strongest vocal moment in the song. And Michael can not be overrated vocally, because many people (like you) think that he is not a veru good singer. I think the coaches and professional vocalists will be strongly disagree.
People appreciate his dancing ability is much higher than the vocal. How can he be overrated singer? Nonsense.

"Just Good Friends" was cheesy as all hell. ~Using the Fat Albert emoticon 'cause no one else is...

They didn't even record it together. MJ was on tour. Put his vocals on tape and sent them to Stevie.

I'm still pissed at Stevie for not releasing the rest of his work with Michael/the J5... they should've BEEN working on an album.

What other music hasn't been released? I thought Buttercup would've been a single. My guess is that was probably the strongest of what was recorded. But who knows...

There's that snippet of, I believe the name is Love Bug, flying around that they did. I'm sure there's more too...

"Vocally weak" are two words that should NOT be used in reference to MJ or Stevie.

He didn't say vocally weak in genereal, just compared to Stevie. he said he overrated. And i think as a singer MJ is overrated to. But not weak defintley, the man can sing but there are many better..
and i am not trolling just stating an opinion, i think MJ had some strong works [Edited 10/17/11 11:40am] Pistols sounded like "Fuck off," wheras The Clash sounded like "Fuck Off, but here's why.."- Thedigitialgardener

Honestly, I do not know how someone can say that Stevie sings better in THIS particular song, even more: MJ is weak ...
But I agree that in general there are better singers (Freddie Mercury, Robert Plant, Steve Perry....),
and again, he is not overrated as a singer, people are often more appreciated by his dancing ability. He may be a bit overrated as an artist in general (although Elvis and Madonna, for example, overrated more), but not as a vocalist.

It ain't that Michael or Stevie were weak vocally on this track, but I think the song was under-produced.

Besides, the best stuff on Characters didn't feature Mike anyways:

The better of the Stevie/MJ duets, but I enjoy both of them. Characters is far and away the best '80s album by Stevie (after 1980's Hotter Than July, of course). "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

It's funny that this song, show come up. I was just playing both this and "Just Good Friends" and in my opinion, this was Michael's, shining vocal moment. He, "BEAT THE BREAKS", off of his part. As for "Just Good Friends", it good, but not as good as this song.... "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"

I have to disagree lol Michael showed his ass on "Lady in My Life". That was, to me, his finest vocal moment. [Edited 10/17/11 15:40pm]

Oh I agree. But, to me his most shining moments are when he is "guest starring", on somebody else's track. It's almost as if he is saying, "Okay, I have a short time so, let me REALLY show out!!". "Love is like peeing in your pants, everyone sees it but only you feel its warmth"
