I wanna start a thread devoted to Duran Duran. You can talk about the group, individual members, even the spinoff groups, The Power Station and Arcadia.

They are playing in L.A. this month, Nokia Theater.

Good bass lines.

I posted a link of John Taylor talking about pop music & the internet, very thoughtful. He mentions Prince in there too. I like listening to musicians who've been in the game a long time, I think they know something of what they speak. Of course talks about Roxy Music, my god didn't know he was such a huge fan still.

When I knew of them in the 80s, I was a little girl & had no idea they were doing drugs and cruising around picking up chicks off the street and getting them naked in the car. Now, it makes them more interesting for me!

Thanks guys!! When they were at their height of fame, I was still a teenager living at home and they never came close enought to me that my parents would allow me to travel... Then I got married, had babies and was too busy with raising a family to go... Now that everyone is grown up and gone I am reliving my teenage dreams lol

DD completes my 3 MUST HAVE concerts... I finally got to go to Prince and George Micheal, and now im going to DD! excited

One of my top bands. I discovered them in 1993, my sister was a big fan and she was quite excited because they had a comeback single with Ordinary World. I used to watch the booklet of albums like Arena and I was both disturbed and attracted to that 80s new wave culture, you know, pretty, healthy young men using makeup and fancy clothes. The funny thing, I tried to be like one of them during the late-90s (well, I certainly used less makeup, lol) and that caused a LOT of trouble in high-school, you know, being called fag, "faggot Bond", prick, 80s cheese lover, stuff like that. lol

My ranking of DD albums

-Seven and the Ragged Tiger

-Rio

-So Red the Rose (yeah I know it's not a DD per se but it sounds like one, lol)

-Debut

-Wedding Album

-All U Need is Now

-Notorious

-Big Thing

-Astronaut

-Red Carpet Massacre

...the rest of their albums are bad ill

Congratulations!!! You will definitely have a great time. I already know the setlist, and it's a perfect mixture of the latest material and blast from a long distant past. I'm going to see them at the end of the month in Las Vegas.

Love D2, Power Station, and Arcadia. I used to alternate beween Rio, and the splinter group tapes during the mid-80's. Even though it was a transitional period, the music was just as great and interesting to me. The only releases I never cared for were Liberty, Big Thing, and Pop Trash. The Wedding Album I like marginally better, but only for two songs: Ordinary World, Come Undone.

Fave releases (in order including PS and A):

Rio

Notorious

So Red the Rose

The Power Station

Astronaut

All You Need Is Now

Arena

Duran Duran

Red Carpet Massacre

7 & The Ragged Tiger

Medazzaland

Duran Duran - Wedding Album

The last three I only have on tape, so I haven't heard those in its entirety in over a decade. I listen to alot of fan created mixes, which is great for the gym or on the road. biggrin

any recommendations on what album i should cop next. i was a "casual" fan in the 80s so i know all the hits and have Greatest. but when it was recommended that I get Rio, i really didn't LIKE the other stuff on the album that much. other than those i have RCM (which i actually like). i've heard REALLY good stuff about their latest, but i'm wondering if Astronaut or something like SATRT will be surprisingly good. thoughts. (ps don't hold the fact that I like RCM against me. i know its not well loved by Duranies but...)

Which songs do u like uptempo or ballady types? I'd say yes for Astronaut and Notorious. Outside of Rio, I'm in the minority of most D2 fans when it comes to placing the other two so high.

Just got tickets to the Sept 27 show in L.A.

This will be my 4th "rock" concert ever. I've recently learned here on the org that maybe I ought to bring earplugs - so I'm ready! Any other advice welcome. I don't recognize a lot of the songs on their latest setlist so I guess I ought to catch up.

I think between Coachella and the "Unstaged" show David Lynch directed, people have gotten to see they're still a good live band.

I think even people who couldn't stand them back in the day have grown to like them as a live act.
