I agree is it's certainly similarto Licking Stick but what it's really identical to is Sly's Sing a Simple Song bassline.
Actually if you take the bass breakdown at 2:18 of Stand
and combine that passage with the Sing a Simple Song you can create something very similar to the Licking Stick bassline.
Since Licking Stick and the Sly tunes came out in 1968 we don't know who might have been copying from who. The Band of Gypsys band was a year later so we can safely say that Cox was paying homage to Larry Graham and Tim Drummond. | |
