I know she doesn't want to, but I think she should put out a Pussycat Dolls-like single first. The public knows her for being on these kinds of songs. If that became a hit, then she could start putting out the kinds of songs she wants to do. It's all business though-you gotta cater to the public.

"Dontcha" was a very good song.I have yet to hear a solo song from Nicole that sounds even half as good.

I agree with what lastdecember has said about America. The US is not the world. Of course, she'd like to make it there, but if she obtains new hits in Europe, that would be great for her too. As someone has said, she has already had a number 1 in the UK.

Kylie Minogue hasn't been really big in the US, has she?

She's gorgeous, can dance and has a great voice, yet she has yet to record anything close to good material and compared to the other girls out there doing their thing she's just not interesting.

yeahthat

I notice she's done some some work overseas (Europe, Asia)...she might do well to focus on being an international adult contemporary singer and not focus on the American market...go a similar route a Laura Fabian or Regine Velasquez (minus all the damn covers)...collect some Euros, set herself up nicely and just go on about her business. If Sporty Spice can transform herself into an old folks pop singer and have a lucrative career, then I would say it's time for this chick to rethink her strategy. At the end of the day if this is about singing and collecting a phat check so you can maintain a house on Cote d'Azur then do it somewhere else; not somewhere where the economy's all busted and the comepetition is waist deep. coffee

I agree with you, but then again it's the younger crowd that buys the most music. How else did the almost 30 year old Shitney Spears' new album and those terrible singles of hers do well? Her music appeals to the pre-teens/teens. The execs want to make the most money possible so they want Nicole to try competing with what's selling well.

Maybe another possible angle I could see Nicole try is doing a Hawaiian themed pop sound. Some of Rihanna's songs have a Caribbean-influenced pop sound and that sets her apart.

The marketing here is all wrong, plain and simple, the USA marketplace and how artists in general in the mainstream are pushed is played out. Britney Spears is always going to sell, she has been at this for 13 years and has almost had a record every year, she started at the "explosive" top lets not forget that, she wasnt a US aritst she was a WORLD ARTIST day one. Now Nicole with PCD was a slow grind, that first single debut at #97 and took months to climb into the top 5, and so did the album, it was a whole themed brand, i dont think that should be carried into her work now. So i can take half of her album and say, look, lets market the STING duet, lets push the "Dont Hold Your Breath" and another track called "AMENJENA" which is just piano vocal written and played by Nicole, lets go that route, because even if you dont selll with that, you make a mark more. But if you cater to the Rihanna crowd, your spitting into the wind, Nicole is 33, thats retirement age in that genre of music and we all know that.

For the record the young crowd doesnt buy the music, its the late 20's to 40 that buy the albums, kids are more ringtones and singles and theft, this is why you will have Katy Perry sell a zillion in singles and barely sell an album, or FLO-RIDA set downloaded singles records but sell 50,000 of that same album containing the song that sold 5 million, those artists are write-offs to labels, they make all that money on singles, artists get about 2Cents on a sale. But thats a whole other thread.

So basically what i am saying is regardless of sales, no one is marketing what should be. WHY did they add 50 cent on to a song that wasnt even a single in other countries? GUESS, its called dumbing down for the USA, same reason LIL WAYNE got slapped on an Amerie track two years ago, did nothing for the song, nor the record, in fact made Amerie fans pissed because they hated him and thought he sucked. So its time for a new game plan with marketing more than with nicole and others.

Not that I liked the song, but "Right There" has been Nicole's biggest solo song on the radio over here (Iceland) so far... "Don't Hold Your Breath" got some airplay too but nothing compared to "Right There"... her new song "Wet" hasn't gotten any real airplay over here yet...

"Right There" was too copy-cat IMO, she adopted some kind of "Caribbean" accent to sound more like Rihanna, even doing the "eh eh eh" stuff lol

Nicole isn't that well known here for her solo stuff, people who see her on X-Factor USA remember her from the Pussycat Dolls. I'd say she's about as well known here as Cheryl Cole but I think that many people preferred Cheryl as an X Factor USA judge.

Don't ever see her becoming a huge solo star. She was much better as part of a group.

Don't even know why she was picked to be a judge on Simon's show except of course to be oogled by Simon and most of the American audience. If she can't manage standing on her own two feet and showing us that she can be a successful star on her own then she does not have the "X factor" to me. He had this to say about her on the Wendy Show.

"She's like Jessica Rabbit. Unfortunately we've put Daffy Duck's brain in. But I love Daffy Duck... She's ditzy and she's adorable... She's gonna kill me for the Daffy Duck (comment)."

Daffy Duck...really? lol
