I was just talking to my friend on last.fm about this very subject. I'm ready for R. Kelly to retire the R&B thug and just be the talented crooning, songwriting genius that he is. Love Letter is an EXCELLENT album and to me his last great album before that was Happy People. I had written him off until a friend forced me to listen to When A Woman Loves. My favorite song by him will always be I Touched A Dream, that song is magnificent!!!

Him & Mary need to leave the streets alone, just be the mature R&B royalty that you have grown to be. I just don't understand why people just can't age gracefully. People will buy your albums even moreso if you did.

Well it's also the 14 - 29 demographics, they're usually shooting for.

Which is kind of counter-productive, since those cats don't even buy music anymore.

It's supposed to. Marvin's ex, Jan even gave R. Marvin's last driver's license picture after hearing this album. She thanked him for doing a great Marvin tribute.

Hell half of the records were Marvin-inspired lmao!!! I can see why Janis thought that way because when I played the entire album, only person's music it reminded me of was Marvin. lol

R. Kelly think's he is the modern Gaye razz, he is a good artist. But never will be at that level.

I doubt that but he does seem to love Marvin Gaye.... a lot. He's always praising him. I can also see the similarites in their work but overall R. is far more bold. It's huge that Janis gave him Marvin's license. Especially since Janis was the inspiration behind some of Marvin's best work.

No, i mean he actually said that lol

That is why i made the comparison, he was once asked who is his biggest challenge. He said himself, he's the new Marvin Gaye & the new yada yada. He said this few years ago

My greatest competition is, well, me . . . I’m the Ali of today. I’m the Marvin Gaye of today. I’m the Bob Marley of today. I’m the Martin Luther King, or all the other greats that have come before us. And a lot of people are starting to realize that now.

That was the quote... oh kells
