This week I read an article about the remaster of Dark Side Of The Moon being released. So far so good, but the writer said that PF never got back on the same level ever since that album.....

Eeeh....The Wall maybe?? confused

You could argue that The Wall was more of a Waters album than a Floyd one. Its closer in sound and format to Pros & Cons OF Hitchiking than any previous Floyd stuff. Personally, I still dont by that....its still a Floyd album to me (Comfortably Numb, the album's highpoint was a Gilmour track ostensibly).

Some Floyd fans swear that Wish You Were Here was a superior album to Dark Side.

I love Dark Side but I dont think that was the end of it for Floyd, not by a long shot!

Which pink Floyd are we talking about...

There have been a few incarnations: syd barret's pink Floyd, Roger waters' pink Floyd, Dave gilmour's...

I like a few Floyd records but overall I would rate Queen higher, as musicians, as performers, and the breadth of material they covered

As a performer and vocalist Freddie is one of the greatest of all time. End of.

Its hard for a band that is not into writing singles but into writing albums, but Pink Floyd wins it for me by far.

and yes Freddy can sing better, Roger can't sing but his voice matches up with the songs so great.

I'm gonna go for

as i like way more of their stuff than Floyd, who i do like but not all of it, I love Dark Side Of The Moon but The Wall does nothing for me bar a couple of the big tracks.

Animals was the last true Pink Floyd album. The Wall was mostly Roger and David with the late Michael Kamen playing keyboards and worked on the orchestration. To me he's an unofficial member of Pink Floyd, but pretty key on The Wall and Final Cut, as well as Division Bell & Momentary Lapse of Reason. Also worked with Roger on Pros and Cons & Amused to Death.

I think Wish You Were Here is more cohesive than Dark Side, and Animals showcases Gilmour & Wright far more than any other album.

Pros and Cons just showed that even if you have Clapton, you still can't replace DG.

Gilmour contributed a lot to The Wall... most of the best known songs from it are the ones he's singing on. It's not the same hearing either Roger or David singing Another Brick in the Wall, Mother, Hey You, Comfortably Numb, and Run Like Hell, you need the both of them to do the songs justice.

It's only when they did Final Cut that he was treated like a session musician and only "Not Now John" where he's front and center. But he has some great solos on it, but Roger left to his own devices sounds way too close to Leonard Cohen turf. But I do wish he and Gilmour patched it up in the early 90s, and made a new album, which would've been part Division Bell, part Amused to Death. Would've been one of their best albums under the Pink Floyd name.

I wouldn't say PF's music in general is soulless and calculated. Maybe The Wall is, but the album is about isolating yourself and losing the big picture, but Gilmour's playing is very soulful. His roots are in R&B music.... that's the stuff he was playing with Jokers Wild and with McCartney. To me, he's not like Clapton but more like Mark Knopfler as far as styles go.
