Well some of their songs used to get played on R&B stations in the 1970's, but I've never heard Money For Nothing on an R&B station, nor any of their other songs. Dire Straits wasn't actually on the show, the music video was shown.
The guests were 5 Star & Sheila E. Don tells her if Prince appears on the show, he's gonna interview him. I woke up this morning and turned on the TV while I was getting ready for work. A commercial was on when I first turned the TV on and I went into the bathroom and started shaving. When the show came back from the commercial, I could hear it in the other room while I was shaving. I thought I had died and woke up in Hell. I hurried up and turned that damn channel to the local news.
There's a reason why shows eventually go off the air. When they turn to bullshit, people stop watching them. In "Soul Train's" case, it should have gone off the air around the same time that "American Bandstand" did in the late 1980s. If Bounce continues to play episodes from the 2000s, people are going to stop watching them. They had already stopped watching them when they originally aired, that's why the show ended. I'm still shocked the went that far. The farthest I've seen them go was to 1988. With the most being the 80-83 era. PRINCE: Always and Forever

I didn't know Soul Train was still on in 2005. The last time I saw it, Shemar Moore was the host. Occasionally I'd see an episode, but I'd turn the sound off and watch the girls dance. I just googled the episode, Feb 4, 2006. Dorian Greggory was the host by this time. PRINCE: Always and Forever

As far as Bounce goes, the latest episodes I've seen are around 1987 or 88. I'm not even really interested in those. They're songs I either heard too much when they were originally out or I've seen the act a lot on MTV or BET (ie. Heart Of Rock & Roll). I don't care about the 1990's and 2000's episodes at all. I'm more interested in the 1970's and maybe the very early 80's, because I've never seen many of that era's acts in their prime. They really have been lately. For the past two weeks, every time I hit "record" on my VCR, I have to stop the recording because it's an episode they've either already aired, or an episode that WGN aired a few years ago, or an episode that Centric aired right before I moved. They did really good for a while and then they started fucking up in the last few weeks.

That's exactly the eras I want to see. There's no reason to go later than 1984 because BET, VH1, and MTV have showed videos from those artists and songs over and over and over throughout the years. I want to see the songs and peformances from back when "Soul Train" was the only outlet to see black artists. Those are the rare and good performances, not the worn out ones. Sherman Hemsley made a record? Judging by the way the dancers are dressed, this looks like MC Hammer era, and it has the Howard Hewett theme song. He was on the same episode with Sherman. Stacy Lattisaw was the 3rd guest. I guess it was around 1989, because I heard All Around The World by Lisa Stansfield and State Of The World by Janet Jackson. 1. On behalf of us that lack have cable TV handcuffs that prevent access to Bounce TV, thank you for the almost daily updates.
The details have been good. I definitely am interested in, for example, the episodes that had Midnight Star/Jeffrey Osborne and En Vogue.
2. You anti-late 80s and anti-90s persons are entitled to your opinions.
I'm definitely entitled to my opinion.
I think there was plenty to enjoy, year by year, in the R&B genre and on Soul Train since it began in 1971 (or 1970/1972, whatever).
But there was there was more than plenty to enjoy and appreciate as good quality in the evolution of R&B in the middle 80s, late 80s, and the 90s (which, I agree, had plenty to not enjoy that much as well) and the 2000s up to the last year of Soul Train.
Maybe what you folks claim is that regardless of the present state of the quality of R&B music was in say, the 90s or the 2000s, the show itself was not doing as good job as it was in the 70s and early 80s. I cannot provide an opinion on that assertion because I do not recall watching Soul Train after the early mid 90s.
I did watch it in the late 80s and early 90s and, compared to 70s and early 80s episodes it seemed at least as good.
