Though I like Madonna's Hung Up, it took a few listens for it to grow on me (I prefer Abbas original) and I was surprised that it broke records as a single worldwide. As a whole album, I feel it is definitely one of her best though and I had it on heavy rotation for almost 2 years.
Obsessed-Mariah. I liked it later on, but could not stand it when it came out and it became the first new Mariah album I did not buy, even if it was dedicated to someone and even though several other songs were okay Touch My Body was so silly too, but the quirkiness grew on me and the album is nice, glad I bought it.
Call On Me-Janet. I agree with a lot of you. All along I kept hearing about some 80's sound coming back on her new project, and though I heard those influences throughout the album sometimes though barely, and through the SOS Band sample, at the time this song sounded like something Mary J. Blige, Mariah and Toni already did months before...and I'm sorry, but wayyyy better than her. Give me Be Without You anyday over this garbage, or even Kelly & Nelly's Dilemma, that was done right. And you know I LOVE janet. I don't hate the song, but it was so weak and should have been a filler track. I think the singles should have been Get It Out Me and if not Enjoy, then With You, which could have also benefitted from less of a lazy production. I used to wish in the 90's Janet and Jermaine would work together when he was remixing everything, but the STCML mix wasn't all that, and then they kept working together since 2006 ugh!!! But he produces fine for Mariah.
Run The World Girls(?)-Beyonce. I'm all for telling girls to stand up for themselves, but this song is horrible. Too much swearing sounds so crass on Beyonce, the song/sound is overproduced and noisy, it sounds like a rally and not a song though I see what she was trying to achieve and failed. And the video is overdone too. Although the performance at the Billboard's was put well together, her dancing was not different from anything she did before and it was not classy singing a song that needed censoring so much after being honored. I don't think anyone would have gotten away with it 20 or 30 years ago. Not buying this album either, tried to like it and I just don't. Love On Top is my favourite and I'll keep it at that.
Prince-His lead-off singles aren't bad, but Chocolate Box made me want to go buy a REAL Chocolate Box to make up for the garbage I heard. [Edited 10/16/11 16:13pm] [Edited 10/16/11 16:15pm] | |
