I just found out that the Sister Sledge version is also a cover! the original was done by Linda Clifford in 1981:

I was about to say "no it's a Linda Clifford original." To be honest when I heard the Sister Sledge version I actually thought it sucked.

that song just kept getting passed around until it finally became a hit in 1990

I gotta admit,Whitney is really good at doing covers.Like Luther Vandross,she can sometimes make you forget the original version.With a few exceptions,I like every remake that she has done.

Her covers are quite good, yes.

It's her own songs that I have a problem with, though....
