Artists that had tracks using GarageBand, FL Studio, Orion, Acid Pro OR Live!

I know about Soulja Boy using FL Studio for his debut single Crank That Soulja Boy.

I know about that GarageBand (especially THAT drum loop) that was used as the foundation for Rihanna's Umbrella.

I know about Daft Punk using Live to composed, arranged, & MIDI/audio recorded every track for the Human After All album.

I know about DJ Danger Mouse using Acid Pro to create the controversial mash-up album of Jay-Z's & The Beatles's music (The Gray Album).

I know about Dynamix II that have been using Orion in creating new electro tracks in recent years.

.

.

.

.

Are there any other artists that you know of that have used OR their producers/beatmakers have used GarageBand, FL Studio, Orion, Acid Pro, or Live?

We know Prince is not one of those artists. He has the "industry standard" Reason somewhere in Paisley Park Studio. I'm more interested in who is using non industry standards.

Reason? Industry standard? It's long been less suitable for serious audio work than most of the programs that you've mentioned. Not least for the reason that none of the previous versions had anything that allowed recording audio - it was just a sequencer that bundled together various software synthesizers. In fact, the latest version that finally allows it came out only about a week ago.

Well, if it's "non-industry standards" then Burial has stated that he makes his music using SoundForge. While the program itself has been an industry standard for editing chores it's not by any means a multitracker.

You can make professional quality music with just about anything that allows audio recording.

For that matter, using Acid Pro for a project like the "Grey Album" definitely makes more sense than using a typical DAW multitracker, because it's a very handy program for timestretching samples and fitting them together. That's what the whole record is about.

I used Acid Pro for years. But they haven't updated it for ages now, so I've switched to Reaper, which is like a mid-point between Acid Pro and Pro Tools. It's very cool.

but to answer the question, the #1 Billboard hit "Like a G6" by Far East Movement was produced by Cataracs using Acid Pro. I saw a video of them explaining how they did it. They've had a few other things in the charts with the singer Dev (who was the girl on the chorus of the FEM song) and I would assume they used Acid Pro for those too.

Interesting, I honestly can't tell you who uses what. I know some snobs think "all of them use FL Studio" or "Fruity Loops". lol

Well that is why I said "industry standard" very loosely. nod For the longest time, the music industry was name-checking Pro-Tools for almost 2 decades straight. But yet, it has been proven by engineers & musicians to get the same professional-sounding results with MOTU, Logic, Cubuse, Audition, and even Ardour.

The "industry standard" status simply means what the majority of the music industry is using and/or expecting at the moment, hence why Pro-Tools & Reason are mention the most.

FL Studio is the MPC of software, that's why! lol wink

I actually seen someone do an exactly version of Justin Timberlake's/Timbaland's Sexyback with FL Studio, with drum samples and a soft synth used to program the sound patches that sounded exactly like the synth bass & lead riffs in the song.

So if you were to sequence up the same loops (like those in Garage Band) which are copyright free based on the software agreement, and then put your own song to it...

Would you get sued by a record company? Or would you make a million on the cultural subconscious echo you tap into in the minds of the teenagers who might not even remember the sound?

Wait, isn't that what Lady Gaga is doing with some of her tracks as far as the sounds/music?

If anyone wants to hear some of my stuff, Orgnote me for the link smile I don't want to hijack the thread biggrin

In theory, you can not get sue for using the same copyright-free sample loops that were used for tracks such as Umbrella and/or Love In This Club.

In reality, we can not put it pass the major record labels or the RIAA to filed a lawsuit if your tracks does sound too much like Umbrella and/or Love In This Club.

lawd. Just saw that video....what a bunch of b.s. com eup with something original!

Myself, I'm lame I still use MTV Music Generator...albeit that is is 11 years old I believe, the program is a basic "do whatever you like"...the snares and hi hats I can take from thousands of songs, or insert 808, 909, linn drums or create my own unique beats and sounds.

Stated using the slim synth on Fruity loops (which is great btw.) Intrested in the others like Garage Band or Acid Pro as Generator is just not up to par soundwise.

Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.
