Madonna - 1984 - 1989
Britney - 1999 - 2004
Gaga - 2009 - now.
It is difficult to say anything definitely, must pass at least another 2-3 years because GaGa career began very recently! cool

Madonna: 1983 to 1991, 1998, 2005-2009
Britney: 1998-2005
Gaga: 2008 to present

Madonna was and is still the most popular. Maybe the sales are lower in the USA, but she sells out so many shows. Her impact was like no one else

I was one in 1990 so this isn't off a first-hand basis but Madonna seemed like such a huge presence in those 12 months. The Like A Prayer era was a year before, the Pepsi controversy, Dick Tracy & Vogue, the Blonde Ambition Tour & getting banned by the Vatican.

Madonna, The Blonde Ambition Tour 1990

Britney, I believe, was at her apex in 2000. No only was her debut (released just a year before) well beyond 10 million in sales but her sophomore album was approaching the same type of numbers, again. She confirmed she was dating Justin Timberlake, the widely popular lead singer of N'sync. Christina, Jessica & Mandy were all trying to imitate her success and failed. Her performance at the Video Music Awars that September became one of the most iconic and talked about moments not only in VMA history but in pop culture period.

Britney Spears performs at the 2000 VMAs.

Gaga had one hell of a breakout year in 2009. Not only was the Fame a smash but the Fame Monster proved to be a huge draw as well. Pokerface, Lovegame, Paparazzi, Bad Romance...all hits. I don't think anything the Born This Way era tops it.

Lady Gaga performs at the 2009 AMAs.

She was big for sure in 1990, I agree. But then again, I don't remember a time when I didn't know who she was, as I was born right as her career began.

Madonna's.

Britney had a good peak between 1998 and 2001. Gaga's peak as of now is definitely 2009.

Why isn't it if she still popular now.. and her album did good numbers can't say for next year especially since Adele is taking over which is a good thing as well but we are in her peak and i'm not the only one who said it in the post but you chose to respond to me only lol. 2010 was her most hyped up year though 2009 she was just starting to heat up.

I think she meant with sales so far. BTW is doing good (8 million ww as of now). But her songs this time haven't sold out the racket like "Just Dance", "Poker Face" and "LoveGame".

Because it's October of 2011 and it's obvious how much her hype faded compared to the craziness of 2010 and 2009. But that isn't to say she still isn't the biggest name in modern-pop today. Because she is.

It was bound to happen and happens to every popstar.

Because on this album are not such strong songs as on the previous album. Videos frankly bad, I did not like either one.
But Gaga remains the most popular person on the Internet, the most famous artist of the current!

Ever since "Judas" was released the era started plateauing. There was so much hype and anticipation in the beginning, the first single exploded out the gate...then the second single came and destroyed the momentum. But BTW is still an obvious success - sold over 1 million the first week (for reasons we won't get into LMAO ) and is one of the top selling albums of the year.

I think it's a little too early to tell with Gaga I would make this post again in a year or two.
