Why is it that this kind of subjects (Michael Jacksons hair, Janet Jackson being seen at some airport, R. Kelly screwing up again, Princes hip-problems) always seem to have far more views on here, then the threads that actually deal with music?
I am not condemning anyone.. i am just curious here: gossip sells?

He was drop dead gorgeous. I also love this photoshoot. One of my favourites is of him looking up smiling. "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

No, it is not true. Michael Jackson did not have a Jheri Curl.

Many fan sites are like that, not just this one. Look at where a lot of the "news" here comes from, TMZ. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

I dont care about gossiping or fooling around from time to time. At the same time i aint looking for a thread about the type of microphone being used on the demo for Horny Toad either.
But what annoys me lately in here is that any topic that seems to deal with music outside the eighties, and that any topic that deals with artists not being part of the Jackson-family or the Minneapolis scene, simply seems to get ignored.
I mean.. did the majority of people here stop listening to music after 1988 or something?
I didn't.
It sometimes get a bit frustating (and scary even...) to see people discuss Michael Jackson's hair, when there is so much great music around to be enjoyed.

To put it even more bluntly:
Are these people discussing MJ's hair grease actually interested in music in general?
More and more i get the idea many people in here aint really music lovers, but they idolise a certain person (in this case a musician called MJ) while they haven't bought a new album since the last Debarge record.
I mean: how can you have a discussion with people who care so little about music? Ultimately this topic might be better off on the forum of 'general discussion', i think.

Well, it is a site about Prince and not a general music forum. In the same way, a site about The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Dolly Parton, or Duran Duran is going to be mainly about them. I don't think many of the people here even come to this section and only post in the Prince part of the site. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

useless nostalgy about some bad hairstyle?

So what's the problem??
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Well, what strikes me is that so many people on 'Music : non Prince' seem to be obsessed with the early and mid-eighties. Like they don't really care for music past that period.
Honestly: there isn't much fun in discussing the likes of Rick James, Midnight Star and Cameo every time.

What's wrong with that? Prince was most commercially popular in the 1980's. I guess people in a Elvis Presley or Frank Sinatra site are not as likely to be discussing modern music either. They're probably discussing performers that were popular during their heyday. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Well, i like music in a broad way, and anyone who thinks good music stopped after 1984, should check their brain.. lol

Next to that the interest for jacksons curls shows again he was some superficial idol, not one of the greatest within popular music.
Michael Jackson = the Katy Perry of the eighties.
| |
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Next to that he was a guy with a lot of issues: - him wanting to be 'white' - his pedophile tendencies (he wasnt judged for abuse, but he has those) - him mistaking commercial succes with respect
The fact that a lot of (afro-american) people keep defending that guy, shows how fucked up it actually is.

- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
OH HELL NO YOU DIDN'T!!!!!!
To belittle MJ's talent and impact on music because of his hair is like saying Prince was a superficial idol because of his high heeled boots and his HAIR. There have been plenty of threads on Prince's hair, his beauty marks, his clothes and his girlfriends. Such discussions don't diminish him as an artist. True fans acknowledge EVERYTHING about an artist. I'M NOT SAYING YOU'RE UGLY. YOU JUST HAVE BAD LUCK WHEN IT COMES TO MIRRORS AND SUNLIGHT!

Michael Jackson was a good child-singer during the seventies.
During the eighties he was confusing commercial succes with self-expression.
During the nineties and further on he was lyp-synching on stage, grabbing his crotch, addicted to all kind of stuff, letting little boys sleep in his bed, and not delivering any type of interesting music.
If thats your kind of idol, fine with me: i just think you are out of your mind.. lol

I guess you haven't seen the many Beyonce threads here. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Especially the defence of MJ's lipsynching I don't get.

- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Well Micky, just curious, what do you find in here?
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
Lypsynching and prerecorded tracks have nothing to do with music, but with entertainment.
I know better examples of entertainment, then some confused pedophile grabbing his crotch and playbacking 'heal the world'.. what is actually more scary: people putting their faith in such kind of trainwreck.

this forum has always had humorous threads. This is just one of many "We may deify or demonize them but not ignore them. And we call them genius, because they are the people who change the world."
- E-mail - orgNote - ![]() |
This poster (Riverman) is trolling. I don't see him starting any threads about anything. Just want to spew negativity for no reason. If he doesn't care about discussing hair, he didn't need to come in this thread. He could have just as easily started a topic about what he is interested in. You can take a black guy to Nashville from right out of the cotton fields with bib overalls, and they will call him R&B. You can take a white guy in a pin-stripe suit who’s never seen a cotton field, and they will call him country. ~ O. B. McClinton

Total nonsense,
I have started threads about the cross-over bands from the nineties, a band like King's X, Karl Wallinger aka World Party, power-pop by Teenage Fanclub.
I care about music, not about some quasi-pedophile with kitschy hair.

Her hair isn't a Jheri curl. She had naturally curly hair. Tatiana has said they put in some tracks for The Way You Make Me Feel video. She was told it was Michael's idea.

you really hate Michael with a passion. You deliberately chose the most talentless singer of our time to humiliate Michael? During the nineties and further on he was lyp-synching on stage, grabbing his crotch, addicted to all kind of stuff, letting little boys sleep in his bed, and not delivering any type of interesting music. Give in to me, Earth song, Stranger in Moscow - very good song s! But the absolute hater just can not admit it! It's against the rules of his game. [Edited 10/7/11 13:32pm]
