Ok. Thanks! It's a weird distorted noise that appears on that cut everytime I play it. The disc is clean and without marks, but I guess mine is just defective. Check me out and add me on:

I don't hear a distorted noise.

It could just be my copy. But it's a minor glitch. Check me out and add me on:

O.K. so I can take off The Rolling Stones and The Who because they are both 60's as well.
That will leave room for Sly & The Family Stone (they are a funk must) Rufus and Chaka Khan ( because how can you not love
I can not believe that no one else added Queen but Oh well
Checking on Frank Zappa's career to see when it started. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

This whole process would be easier if I was not trying to put rock and R&B together in one list There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

The 70's is my favorite decade for music because of the depth of talent found and heard everywhere. Just incredible of the amount of great music being made in every genre that its easily to forget or not name everyone Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND Chaka Khan = FIRE Sade = WATER the ELEMENTS of MUSIC

How about Ashford and Simpson?
Those two can have Frank Zappa's spot.
I still love Donna Summer but how can I keep her over Minnie? That is just not right. But Donna ruled in the late 70's for sure. There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

Heart can be added to my list lol so can Led Zeppelin (though they started in 1968, they didn't make a real impact until 1970 when "Whole Lotta Love" broke through).

Heart is a good choice. Too many good choices without making it harder on yourself by letting Led Zeppelin sneak in with a technicality. Timmy I think your list is way longer than 7.
Ashford and Simpson recorded their own songs before 1970 so they are gone.
Starting off with "all the young dudes" in my updated list;
Bowie T Rex Queen Minnie Sly and the Family Stone Rufus and Chaka Khan Marvin Gaye
(Sorry Donna and sorry Sir Elton) There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.

No punk lovers here? It's not really my genre but someone should mention The Sex Pistols, The Ramones, Blondie...

I'll try to stick to the parameters suggested by the OP as much as possible.
1. David Bowie 2. ABBA 3. Betty Davis 4. The Runaways 5. Stevie Wonder 6. Kraftwerk 7. The Stooges/Iggy Pop
Quantity has the slight edge over quality here in that more weight was given to artists of which I owned multiple albums (three minimum) vs. just one or two from that decade (T.Rex, Shuggie Otis).

To be fair to all, we need a top 7 list for funk, rock and punk otherwise we are leaving out toooooo myany artists that should be mentioned. The 70's was a great decade for live music and music in general.
