You never know? She could pull an Erykah Badu (i.e. New Amerykah Part One (4th World War)) on us and give us another "masterpiece" aside from the faulty decent single. It may be unexpected as hell...but this is MARY we're talking about! Her peak has come and gone. You never know!

Whatever happens with this album Mary ain't done.

She's that type of artist that will make a brilliant comeback and be Grammy's sweetheart and shit when you don't expect it. So no, I'm not sayin the album won't be a good one or a success. I just find the wording of the title funny. My Life 2 would've been plenty fine.

No a different title altogether would been plenty fine. She's already done a sequel: the ill-fated Love & Life.

You damn right she ain't Chaka nor Anita nor Aretha. Her voice has always reminded me of Natalie Cole meets Billie Holiday. People love Mary for her modern take on the blues because it FIT her voice and life. Her voice doesn't mesh well with happy music which is why there has been such a disconnect between her and her audience. Her being happy though has brung her her greatest success so she is stuck between a rock and a hard place, sadly. But she panders too much to competing with today's R&B artists and being trendy instead of being the aging wise matron who has the experience and knowledge to record much superior music and show them how its done. SMH

Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton & Janet Jackson have all suffered because of it. SMH

Stevie Wonder = EARTH
Prince = WIND
Chaka Khan = FIRE
Sade = WATER

Something about female artists turning FORTY seems like a curse. confused Like they don't know what to do once they reach that age... I hope for Mary's sake that her music turns a corner where she doesn't have to do work with modern hip-hop/plastic shit...

Mariah is a real life version of the Curious Case of Benjamin Button. Her whole career is backwards. She started off so sophisticated and deep, she had a Vision of Love, she dressed like a nun. Then all of a sudden every dress would be shorter and shorter and her boobs got bigger and bigger, she's now in kitchens with The Dream making kool-aid and arguing about unpaid rent. LMAO

Physically older, yes, but getting younger and younger in the head.

Could be. Just like Clive had Whitney pretend she was Cinderella.

I love her but the title is a bit much/overkill.

It's a part 2 already, which is fine, but then it's got an individual title (The Journey Continues), but wait...it's just act 1 of that. lol

I think it's tacky when artists make "sequels" to previous albums.It makes it appear as if they ran out of fresh ideas and are now reaching back to past glories.

This move by Mary reminds me of R. Kelly's never-ending initiative to re-imagine his 12 Play album. Fortunately, Prince, to name one example, didn't feel the internal pressure to duplicate a watershed moment like Purple Rain. To echo what was said earlier, I hope this album won't feature 200 guest rappers.

It does remind me of what Kels has done - and continues to do lol trying to repeat 12 Play... JFC.

We are not in the hood anymore (and I'm saying that like it's a bad thing). I'm bored with this dramtic diva Mary J. Blige. You can't judge an album by it's cover but....I don't know. She's boring me lately.

Or in other words, the woman that told it like it was and is. smile I feel ya. I don't want her to go back to that tragic role but at least bring that down for it vibe that she had when she first came out. She can still create a deep album without having to feel depressed.

Same here. After listening to the samples of each song, nothing really catches my ear. I think this is the first Mary J. CD I'm going to skip. I'll have to take a listen to the Target Exclusive bonus tracks to see if there is anything interesting there.

I'm scared to hear it. That's one of my faves from Chaka too. From its intro I can hear that Rodney "Darkchild" Jerkins produced it. Any word on the rest of the album credits? I'd like to know who produced what.....

No prob if you don't have info...

I can't vouch for the accuracy, but the producer and songwriting credits for My Life II are on Wikipedia.

You can sample the songs from My Life II from iTunes now. I just did and I'm not so impressed. I know that's bad, but all I'm getting is the same techno-pop/contemporary R&B sound that were present on the last two albums. I'm loving that cut she has with Nas though.
